"He caught Severide’s familiar greying dark head from the corner of his eye and swallowed hard when he saw him lean over the counter to kiss Stella. Of course, he would do that. Reassure himself that he made the right decision. He would do that all night. And that was something he couldn’t bear. Not tonight, not any other night."
All Casey knows from life is stumbling and falling. Every time he gets up, he just falls again. And someday he starts to wonder if it’s even worth the effort.
Severide has the life he wants, but he hasn’t what he needs. By the time he realises he took a wrong turn, it may already be too late.Somewhere down the road they lose their way, and it's uncertain if they will find back togther. Because sometimes, you stand at the crossroads of life, and all God sends you is a question mark. To know the right way doesn’t necessarily mean to find it.
This is a sequel to "Today is a Dark Place to Be" and takes up right at the end of the story. If you haven't read it yet, I strongly recommend you do so before starting this.
