And now, the single, solitary time he slipped up, once, took something he knew he wasn’t entitled to but that he actually wanted, just once, and now this? It was a joke. It was an absolute joke. The universe was laughing at him, and jeering, God was shaking his head, disappointed but not surprised, and all Eddie could assume was he was being punished after all. Tested, like Job.
He’d thought it was enough not to act on anything, but obviously, just having the urges in the first place was enough. And now he was paying for them.
