Bookmarker's Notes
Robin's left running for his life, trying to buy time in order to bring in help, knowing he can't take down Batman on his own. Batman already destroyed his gauntlet so he can't contact the League, but he brought his phone (which Bruce would be pissed at, but whatever), so he calls Wally and asks his boyfriend to get reinforcements. And it ALMOST works. If there just hadn't been *ONE* bullet left in the gun when he'd knocked Batman down, when he'd turned at the League's arrival, it would have been okay...
And after that, Bruce, clear of the mind control now, sees his soon bleeding out in Barry and Wally's arms, with Wally frantic, and things don't get a whole lot better from there.
[The next part in the "Watercolour" series, "Kenopsia", follows Wally's angst-filled and emotional wait during the night with the Team at Mount Justice, as he waits to hear from Bruce whether or not Dick survived the night: https://archiveofourown.org/works/8511322]

Summary
So, Dick collapses.
It comes out of nowhere. They’re in the kitchen one rare morning that they both have off. Wally is trying to follow his dad’s old recipe for French Toast, and Dick is doing the laundry. There’s easy banter and flirting and tired kisses with too much stubble because neither of them have shaved yet. Wally jokes about growing out a beard. Dick says he’ll leave him first - and easy on the sugar, he’s watching his hips. Dick goes into the laundry room and Wally calls to him down the hall about grabbing his phone or something from the bedroom.
No answer.
Wally calls him again. Dick walks out of the laundry room in a bit of a daze. Wally asks him what’s wrong. Again, Dick doesn’t answer. He just looks up at Wally and... drops.

Bookmarker's Notes
Dick starts suffering seizures and intense migraines, more and more often, out of the blue. He gets benched as Nightwing and eventually put on medical leave from work. Wally is *SCARED*, and they're getting no answers from the doctors even as Dick's health seriously starts to decline. Wally is *SO FREAKING DEVOTED* in this fic, oh my gawd!!!! When the doctors can do nothing but essentially treat the symptoms as best they can and determine whatever it is is likely hereditary, and it's clear that Dick is on borrowed time, Wally sets out to track down as much info on Dick's family history (as scattered as it is across the world and lost over the years) as he can, finally finding a living relative who has similar medical history. He gets answers, and the doctors are able to start new medications to treat the real issue, then perform brain surgery. The whole BatFam (and friends) really come together to support both Dick and Wally in this.

Bookmarker's Notes
His communication isn't working, so in a desperate attempt to get the urgent medical help he needs, he manages to make his way to the nearest JLA safehouse/bunker to use their communications. Except when he gets there he comes across Roy's daughter, Lian, where her family left her during the fight to stay safe herself. Now Dick's trying not to traumatize this poor kid too badly (he fails?), but also absolutely needs her help if he's going to survive long enough to get help. She has to help him bandage his wound to slow the bleeding, and then work the computer for him when trying to contact someone for help. If only things would stop going *wrong* at every turn.
Very close call.

There's a siren in the water of the bay, and Dick is the unfortunate person to catch its notice. It lures him in by impersonating his mother. He realizes too late, and gets pretty injured in the fight after he breaks through its hold on him. Mostly by coincidence, Jason is on the pier above where Dick washes up on shore after, and winds up trying to take care of him. Dick's in an emotional state as well. Jason gets him somewhere safe while they wait for Bruce to get there. Angst and hurt/comfort, with lots of protective!Jason (to his own shock).

Dick takes a bullet for Jason, but is also beat to hell on top of it, so it's a combination of gunshot wound to the leg and broken ribs with internal bleeding that has Jason worrying over his older brother while they wait for help to arrive. Jason wouldn't really admit it out loud, but he's kind of shocked by just how *much* he's actually worried over Dick right now. Which expresses itself as anger at Dick for being stupid and getting injured in the first place, resulting in a childish brotherly insult exchange while they wait.

And Jason spends the rest of the fic seriously fretting over a VERY sick and *VERY* much in pain Dick Grayson, who's also seriously out of it on top of everything else. And with it being a new concoction, they don't have an anti-toxin developed yet and can't risk giving anything to Dick at all until Alfred can get there and analyze Dick's blood. It's a very stress-inducing waiting game. Lots of sweet moments with protectiveness and a sort of longing/nostalgia for some kind of relationship with Dick, whom Jason just can't help but still really care about--even if it DOES piss him off, too.

Bookmarker's Notes
Slade and Dick have a pretty stable "understanding", and are comfortable with where they stand with each other. And now Slade finds himself on a job to guard an injured and bound kidnapped Richard Grayson as his captors hope to get ransom money. Slade's a bit amused at the situation, Dick a bit as well. Dick doesn't break himself out, and Slade has a great deal of observations and introspection as the night wears on and his subtle concern for the young man continues to grow. They both know, underneath it all, Slade won't let him die, but he doesn't necessarily have to *help*. Right when he reaches the point where he feels he'll have to intervene (Dick's apparently unconscious now from hypothermia), the Red Hood shows up (Slade knows who he is and what his whole deal is with both the Pit and his rocky relationship with his family) and is pissed as hell and seemingly in a very angry and protective mood. And is surprisingly gentle with Dick.

After an angry confrontation and then an angry confession, things calm down real quick as Jason realizes what likely happened. Then he asks Dick to explain, and is both pissed and devastated to learn that his brother was raped. Anger at Dick gone, replaced by rage on his behalf and fierce protectiveness in trying to comfort and reassure his brother that it wasn't his fault. Because clearly no one else ever knew what happened and Dick was left berated by others and blaming himself. Good brotherly moment.

Bookmarker's Notes
Jason's pissed when Dick doesn't show up to pass on intel when they were supposed to meet up. And then he can't contact him or track him down, nor have his friends or Clark heard from him, so Jason begrudgingly goes to the manor to see if he's there. He meets Bruce, Tim, and Alfred in the Cave, but when he starts yelling about Dick, the atmosphere completely changes and all clues and behaviors point Jason to the horrifying conclusion that Dick is dead. But Bruce won't actually *tell him*! They yell, and then Bruce tells him off for whatever game he's playing, because Dick's been dead for *years*! Cue Jason piecing together that Dick's known family (so not Jason)--and *only* his family (not any friends elsewhere)--have had their memories of Dick modified. Then he realizes it's a ploy to make sure that no one goes looking for a missing Nightwing, and Jason knows he has very little time to find him. Wally joins in immediately, and Tim does some digging and realizes something's wrong, so he and Damian are on board too.
INCOMPLETE
[Only has one chapter, but still a very enjoyable read as is if you just want to read about Jason worrying and panicking and being angry because something's happened to Dick (and briefly thinking he was actually dead) and he's desperate to get him back before it's too late.]> The Ache for Home by CamsthiSky

Bookmarker's Notes
Pretty much when there's the most bad blood between Jason and the Bat Family. But then there's an alien invasion and the League is seriously short-staffed and calling in all the allies they can, and Jason finds himself on the battlefield because he was mostly in the area, and then Nightwing had *vouched* for him to the League for this. (Idiot.) And then Jason's walking from one now-empty battlefield to one that's still going, but comes across a very seriously injured Nightwing whose communicator is apparently broken. A lot of Jason's confused introspection (and some denial), but he's actually pretty desperately trying to keep Nightwing from bleeding out while trying to call and wait for evac. (And Nightwing *IS* bleeding out--pretty quickly.) But despite all their bad history that can't be undone, Dick is treating Jason like he's still *family*, and making last requests as big brother and all kinds of things. It's the first familial hand reached out this day. He accompanies him to the medical facility set up by the League, and stays, because he won't be told what happens to Nightwing if he leaves. Then Tim and Damian show up, and while things are tense, they call a *truce* with him (a sort of olive branch), because they know he saved Dick instead of letting him die. Then *Batman* shows up and has *hope* again for Jason and still being family after Nightwing, but it takes like ~30k of highly emotional, head-against the wall circular arguments for them to get to all the roots of the problems, and for Jason to maybe believe that Bruce is serious, and that he needs some help--they *all* do--and he tentatively agrees that they can TRY again.
Cathartic as hell, but be prepared to buckle in, because the introspection and hashing it out argument are LONG.

Bookmarker's Notes
Desperate to fix his spine and return his life to what it was before (particularly his life as Batman), Bruce decides to try something from a book he found in his mother's old belongings and summons a Fae--but they're dangerous, and the book warned that the safest way to get out of that situation without being torn apart, is to bind yourself to the Fae. So he does, not knowing the cost. It hurts the Fae, he's forced to name it to Bind it--he calls "it"/him Robin--his spine is fixed, and Robin has to obey Bruce. But, at the end of one year, the Bind will break and Robin will tear him apart--that CAN'T be changed, Robin doesn't actually get to choose. Also, in that year, Robin can't return home, so has to stay with Bruce. Goes through that year of them together, Bruce getting back into being Batman, him and Alfred trying to figure out how to deal with Robin, and over time, Robin and Bruce going out together and bonding, and Robin taking on more and more human traits, finally learning empathy and care for the people they try to save. But at the end of the year, Robin will revert to his original self and lose those feelings, so it's like they'll both die. So now they have to figure out if there's a loophole to save them both (but what will be the cost this time?). And Superman begins his own career and introduces himself to Gotham's heroes somewhere in there too.
VERY fun. LOTS of feels.

Dick's dealing with the fallout from his stint with Spyral and his presumed (sort-of-faked) death, now that he's back to his "normal" life. It's particularly messy with his brothers. Damian's loyal, and apparently now Tim's come around (turns out he and Damian watched the footage from Batman's cowl and now blame *Bruce* for everything that happened with Dick, and not Dick himself), but Jason is still absolutely livid with Dick. It gets ugly, Damian gets super protective, and it ends with Tim and Damian comforting and reassuring Dick, so at least he knows *two* of his brothers still love him...

Bookmarker's Notes
Very complicated familial dynamics with Dick and the rest of his family. Jason's on the outs after what he did both in general after returning, as well as what he did to *Tim*. But he keeps seeking out Nightwing in Bludhaven, and while they still sometimes come to blows out on the field over moral differences, Dick *knows* that Jason isn't going to kill him. (Jason's issues aren't with Dick, they're with the other members of the family.) But Jason also pops by from time to time (not always saying why), and he and Dick both patch each other up. This unfortunately puts Dick in a bad place with some of his other siblings (Tim and Steph), because it's hard for them to understand that Jason is still Dick's *brother*, and he can't just cut him out.
Everything comes to a head when Dick is asked back to Gotham for help in an all-hands-on-deck situation involving ninjas. Dick takes down a few of them on a rooftop where Jason appears. Bit of an argument, Dick turns to leave to go help Bruce and the others, and misses that one of the ninjas is awake. He gets stabbed by a knife coated in some paralytic toxin and stumbles off the roof's edge (four stories up). Jason FREAKS, and desperately tries to save him, running him straight to Bruce for help. There's recovery, arguments, and some conversations, but things are maybe looking more promising by the end.

Bookmarker's Notes
Can VERY easily be read as platonic Jason & Dick.
Jason does his usual new routine of going to the Cave after a fight to "give his report"--he's really checking to make sure with his own two eyes that all the younger siblings are actually unharmed (because the verbal "everyone's fine" over the comms just isn't enough to quell that anxiety). He gets there and is horrified to realize with Tim and Steph's reactions and quick unprompted reassurances that they *know* he cares about their well-being. He also realizes they're anxious and treating him like he's fragile, and they're hiding something. He deduces Dick must be injured (they confirm), and is then both angry and baffled that they think he cares about DICK--he doesn't, just the younger ones. Then he sees Dick, he looks banged up, but then needs help moving at all and getting out of uniform so Jason helps, and it piece by piece dawns on Jason that Dick is SERIOUSLY banged up, what the hell happened??? Helps him to bed, confronts him, finds out Dick was caught unawares (he missed a guy) and had a line thrown around him and was thrown off a building. Literally the *ONLY* reason he's not dead right now is because his arm *happened* to get tangled up in the line as well, so his neck didn't actually snap. Jason is horrified, and needs to lie down. Turns out the reason he never worried about Dick *wasn't* because he didn't care about him (like he'd thought), but because he never thought he *had* to worry about Dick. It was just... *fact*, in his mind, that Bruce and Dick are pretty much untouchable. Now Jason's freaking out about this new reality where they AREN'T.
Kinda hilarious (Jason's such an anxious mess of a soccer mom), kinda angsty, kinda sweet (family feels!).

Summary
“I already have a dad, y’know? So you don’t have to be my new dad. I don’t really want you to be my dad, anyway. We can be friends. Partners.”
Bruce seems to sigh in relief, having stiffened up halfway through Dick’s speech. “Friends and partners, then.”
And they were in agreement.
Bruce and Dick and a series of steps and leaps and jumps.

Bookmarker's Notes
They both really come to regret that that agreement had ever been put into place as precedent in their relationship. They both want to be official family later on, but never manage to say the words, so that festers until Dick is nearly 30 and all of the rest of his younger siblings, now all officially adopted, realize that Dick *isn't*, and that sparks some long past overdue conversations.
