This story takes place 15–20 years after Fast X. Dom and Letty now have two additional children besides Brian: Teresa and Thomas. Teresa, three years older than Thomas, is a car enthusiast like her father and older brother, embracing the Toretto legacy. Thomas, however, takes after Letty in appearance and personality, with traits reminiscent of his uncle Brian and grandfather. He loves math, nature, and exploring, and is double-majoring in mathematics and engineering.
While home for summer break, Thomas is taken by his brother Brian to an illegal street race, a nod to their parents’ past. At the race, Thomas meets “Lightning,” the reigning street king, whose real name is Minho Lee. Minho, a fan of Dom and Brian, mocks Thomas for his nerdy fashion and lack of racing skills, unaware that Thomas is Dom’s youngest son. Thomas remains calm but asks Brian to take him home, leaving Minho suspicious of their relationship.
The next day, Tej introduces Minho to Dom, who he met at a gas station and where Minho has a fanboy moment. To his shock, Thomas arrives looking like a rugged mechanic, fitting Minho’s type. But Minho’s world is turned upside down when Thomas casually calls Dom “Dad,” revealing his true identity.
