Summary
Neil leaned back in his chair, balancing it on two legs. Across the room, Charlie scribbled furiously in his notebook, tongue peeking out as he worked. The others lounged around the makeshift clubhouse—a storeroom they’d claimed as their own—lost in lazy after-class chatter. Knox leaned against the doorframe, muttering about a girl from the Danburry mixer, while Meeks and Pitts argued over their latest radio project.
“What if we just... didn’t?” Neil said suddenly, slicing through the haze of conversation.
“Didn’t what?” Charlie looked up, pen still in hand.
“Didn’t follow the script. Didn’t do what they wanted. Just... lived.”
Charlie snorted, a grin curling at his lips. “Now that’s a thought.”
“Alright, dreamers,” Knox teased, turning back. “What’s the plan? Steal the school crest? Take over assembly?”
Neil shrugged, his face glowing with something wild. “I don’t know. But doesn’t it feel like it’s time for something to change?”
or, how a group of boys learned to carve their own path in the shadow of Welton Academy, one quiet rebellion at a time.

Summary
Todd's eyelids fluttered open, and for a moment, the world shrank down to just him and Neil, holding each other's gaze.
In the past, Todd would have taken this as a signal to withdraw, to retreat into the protective shell Neil had often teased him about. But not now. Not after Neil's soft, lingering kisses had kindled something new within him—a craving to feel those lips on his own, to bridge the gap between longing and reality. In this moment, Todd was just as determined as Neil, both of them bound by a shared desire that felt incomplete, waiting to be fulfilled.
"Tell me if I get it wrong," Todd murmured, his voice barely audible as he leaned closer.
or:
In which Todd needs to learn how to kiss, and his kind-hearted roommate Neil is more than happy to lend a hand—and lips.

Summary
The theater was warm, filled with eager eyes. The play captivated everyone. Neil, as Puck, delivered his final monologue, and the audience erupted into applause. The Poets were proud. Todd, however, felt a mix of pride and nervousness, anticipating his confession.
Neil basked in the warmth and praise, feeling truly accomplished, but he couldn't ignore the cold shadows lurking. His father, Mr. Perry, waited with a disapproving scowl. Neil knew he wouldn't escape unscathed this time.
Or: Neil still survives a suicide attempt, but isn't allowed to return to Welton until the next school year. What happened to him during the time he was absent? How will he deal with his mental health issues?

Then Steven Meeks, Gerard Pitts, and Richard Cameron, all of whom he met in his Freshman year. He loves his group of six. He’s never imagined adding a seventh. That was until he read on his dorm paper that he’d be having a new roommate named Todd Anderson.
