She almost wanted to laugh. No pressure. What a joke.
In Aurora’s mind the previous night she’d come to the conclusion that this was going to go either one of two ways: She would find the chip. She’d be a hero and would return to the vault and live out the rest of her days warm and safe in the knowledge that she’d saved their home. Or, and this was in her most honest, reasonable opinion, she would die in the next few days, her home would succumb to thirst, and her corpse would be scattered across the wasteland, and she would be forgotten whilst the wildlife picked at her bones.
Either, or.
She would just have to wait and see.

He could've died at her hands, retribution was her right and he braced for his fate when he saw her emerge from the building, instead she spared him. After all, he still had a conscience, for better or for worse, now they shared the same goal and he'd make sure she got there unscathed, no matter what it takes.
