Summary
Bradley Uppercrust III, or 'Brad', as Maximilian Goof calls him, is back at school after being out for three weeks following the X-Games. Tank slingshotting Bradley into the blimp has forced new fears and new feelings into Bradley's life. All he wants now is to get through his last two years at State and graduate. He's on thin ice with the school and his father, so he needs to not make another mess or spill too much in therapy. However, Max seems to have other ideas.

Max had hoped to never see Bradley again, ever, after the X-Games. So why was Bradley walking up to him and his friends? Was he actually being serious, or was this another scheme? Wait, does Brad actually have a heart?

Bradley Uppercrust III has followed his life by a set of rules. He's been crafted to perfection to be worthy of being his father's son. Perfect at everything he does, and look good while he does it. After the truth of what happened at the X-game competitions came out, Bradley becomes a ghost, slinking to the shadows where he once shined brightly.
In contrast, Max only became more popular. His life was good, despite the rising popularity having been strange to get used to. He wished for a normal sophomore year free of incident, but when Roxanne texted him saying she was transferring to his school and got accepted to a study abroad program to France, she invited him and his friends to come with along with one mystery person Roxanne had referred to as her best friend.
Nothing could have possibly prepared Max for the realization that Roxanne's best friend was actually Bradley Uppercrust the Third himself, and they would be spending an entire semester together abroad almost 5,000 miles away from home as roommates. Things couldn't get any worse for Max, and Bradley was a royal pain in the ass to exist with. Except as time passed, he realized maybe Bradley wasn't the devil incarnate that he thought he was.

This has got to be some sick joke. The teacher’s gonna point and laugh and say 'Got ya, Max', and he’ll flip the deck again and he won’t be paired up with him.
There’s chattering as people start to stand up and find their groups, and Max so desperately wants to stay in his spot and not move a muscle. He could be like those possums, playing dead and hoping no one asks why he’s not going to find his group.
But Brad’s also staying planted in his seat, and Max never refuses the chance to one-up him. So he gets up, makes a show of scraping his chair against the tiled floor and swinging his bag over his shoulder, and walks right up to Brad.
