Summary
Will Byers always knew he would never amount to much. He supposed his upbringing of constant poverty led him to that mindset. He and his brother Jonathan were similar in that way. After dropping out in middle school, he had taken a position at a car washing business to support their mother and Will himself, and Will wanted to do the same after graduating. Where he and his brother differed was what they did in their spare time. While Will painted and read, Jonathan was getting into street fights. Will tries his best to stay out of it. But, it can be a little bit difficult when his brother is the leader of one of the most feared gangs in the city, the Rooks.
Mike Wheeler had everything someone of the likes of Will Byers did not. He had a nice house to grow up into, a nuclear family, money for college, and a slew of girls waiting for him to take them out. However, even through all of this, he feels like he may collapse in on himself every time he breathes. He hates practically every company he keeps, he can't get himself to like his girlfriend, and he definitely shouldn't be looking at boys the way he does. Oh, and he somehow became associated with the Boulds, who have a long time rivalry with the Rooks. Just his luck.

His entire demeanor had changed. He was still locked in Tommy’s iron grip, but his posture relaxed as if he were bored, rather than on the brink of certain death.
Tommy frowned like Eddie was an imbecile. “No, Munson, that’s Commodore Harrington right there.”
Eddie grinned hard, a manic thing that still managed to light up his face. “I don’t give a shit. I’m Captain Eddie Munson.”

Here's my take on that.
Season 2 AU.
"There was something condensing at the far end of the street, shadows shifting unnaturally as the red sky darkened to black. Billy instinctively tightened his hold on Byers, unconsciously beginning to back away from the shadowy thing that was growing darker and taller by the second. He'd nearly been driven insane by the intangible sense of danger that had haunted him since moving to Hawkins, but there was no relief in finally seeing the thing that had set off all his alarm bells. He couldn't punch a goddamned shadow. What the fuck."

“Be serious, Will.” Mike said with a chuckle just as he let go of Will’s wrist. He then made his way back to the bed, lying down and covering himself with a blue blanket, that randomly lied untouched on one of the chairs in his room. “Come lie down—“ He patted the spot next to him. “—You can’t be exhausted for today.” He said with a small smile and made more space for Will beside him, when he scooted more over to his side of the bed.
“You’re kinda talkative today, what happened?” Will pointed out with furrowed eyebrows and a small smirk plastered on his lips. Will didn’t mean it in a bad way, he was in fact really glad Mike felt comfortable talking to him again, because that was like the longest conversation they had in a while.
Little did Will know, Mike felt a little bad inside. He knew it was more awkward between them than ever before these past few months and of course he didn’t want it to be that way.
Ever since him and El broke up and Mike confronted Will about the painting it all got so..complicated. They fought, they made up, but somehow there was this weird tension between them ever since.
