Summary
“Don’t feel bad. I don’t blame you for not noticing. You were to young to understand anyways.”, Max claimed. “But weren’t you the same age as me?”, asked Charles as he looked at Max’s scars - some old and almost faded, some fresh, bright and red.
Or Charles not realising how bad Max was hurting over the years until he finally did.
Or Max is not coping very well/healthy with the trauma Jos gave him. -

Summary
In the heart of December, the city’s festive lights cast long shadows for Max, who sees Christmas not as a season of joy, but as a reminder of painful memories and absence. For him, the holidays were cold and isolating, marked by silence and unmet expectations.
Charles, on the other hand, carries the warmth of Christmas past, though the absence of his late father has left an emptiness in his once lively celebrations.

They stop by a small tree lot, the faint smell of pine filling the air.
Charles watches Max carefully. There’s something distant in his eyes, the same way Charles feels sometimes when he thinks too much about his father.
“You don’t like Christmas, do you?” Charles asks gently.
Max stiffens, and for a second, Charles wonders if he has overstepped. But then Max exhales, fogging the cold air, and shakes his head.
“I never really had a reason to.”

Summary
Every rookie driver was required to find a mentor for the duration of their rookie season. The GPDA had agreed to the mentorship program outlined by the FIA years ago, in hopes of better supporting young drivers as they made their first forays into the pinnacle of motorsport. Usually, the choice was left up to the rookie and experienced drivers who were interested in serving as mentors, with little to no interference from the FIA – as long as the correct paperwork was filed.
While pairings could happen between teammates, they weren't the only pairings to exist - some rookies had prior connections on the grid, while others would choose to seek out a driver with the same secondary gender as themselves, or else another driver who spoke the same first language as them.
As a brash, young and reckless driver - who also happened to be unpresented - Max Verstappen didn't hold much hope when it come to finding a mentor.

Summary
“That was your ace up your sleeve, then?”
It is Charles who initiates the dialogue this time, appearing like a tornado next to the blond. Max pretends - because yes, Charles knows he is pretending - not to be affected by the sudden and almost aggressive approach. He does not move away; instead, he looks down at Charles, assessing him from head to toe, as if analyzing his rigid body expression before looking back at the man’s angry green staring at him.
A heavy silence hangs between them, heavy with unspoken words and internal challenges. Max's blue breaks the contact as it always does.
“Did you really think I would back down?” Charles’ voice is filled with disbelief, a mixture of disdain and assurance.
Max looks straight ahead at Paris when he answers in that low, sure tone: “My ace up my sleeve is knowing exactly that you wouldn’t.”
And this answer hits him like a knife.
Charles huffs, pulling away, frustration rising like a wave. He can’t let Max have the satisfaction of seeing him give in. Anger and determination intertwine, forming a tight knot in his stomach.
or: Charles and Max are gymnasts competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics. They are also ex-boyfriends.

Summary
It's just the two of them in the stall, in the world, in the universe. Just his knees against hers and the stale recycled air they share. Just thoughts like morning sickness, prenatal appointments, ultrasounds, a second smaller heartbeat fluttering like butterfly wings, a clump of cells and its metamorphosis into a person and a foetus with its mom’s smile and its dad’s dimples. Just seconds before the bomb explodes. Seconds before his heartbeat stops.
