Summary
For millennia, monsters remained hidden from humans, while the rare encounters of ancient times were brushed off as myths and legends in the modern world. As of recently, monsters have been revealed as real to the general public, which led to governments scrambling for a peaceful solution, and the Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill was formed. While humans and monsters try to adjust to living together, tensions can still be felt, but there are those that believe peace between both races are worth the hardships.

Hikari did not usually watch the news. She wasn’t interested in it, and she figured that if something was important enough her parents or teachers would tell her about it. It was pretty much dumb luck that she was channel surfing when she heard “-new leader of Japan calls for the eradication of demi-human welfare systems starting as soon as this week, to the shock and horror of demi-humans who rely on these systems.”

Hikari-in-the-mirror looked hungry. Her eyes were dark, and her face looked gaunt. Something about her expression was off. She smiled, and it had too many teeth. She tried again. This one didn’t reach her eyes and was closer to a grimace.

Cold blood from a bag couldn’t compare to the ecstasy of this, warm and fresh, flowing into her mouth almost without effort. Her hunger was finally being sated, she finally felt strong, why had she gone so long without doing this? Her prey shifted and she gripped it harder, keeping it from fleeing as she gulped more blood down. It moved harder, and she growled a warning.
