Stiles uncovered this when he turned seventeen, and he was almost killed again.
Stiles had been given the documents that his father had been able to put together. Learning his real name, he was shocked that his mother kept his first name, but his last name was completely foreign, and it seemed like home. Mieczyslaw Mikaelson seemed like home; of course, he still loved his father even after knowing he was his adoptive father. After taking time to swallow the pills of his past, Stiles ran to tell Scott and Derick about the new information he had learned about his life.
