The focus and dedication in her gaze, her stern voice as she commanded the court as her domain. The judge ruled this court as a king would a kingdom. It entranced him.
Before he knew it, he was home again. Charles was happy but also oddly disappointed. He had wanted to see the judge work with confidence.

Why had he done this to himself? He felt as if he was a very visible nervous wreck. Jury duty? Really? Charles' job depended on him being there. He had the capabilities to drop out of this. Yet Charles wanted to see the judge again.
He longed to hear her speak, from the cadence of her voice to the tone and accent. It was all so mesmerizing.
