Revolution becomes a lot more imaginable when you remember that the "means of production" is fundamentally just all of our bodies, time, imaginations, choices - a lot of people have to keep on continuously making decisions, day by day and moment by moment, and it's entirely conceivable that if enough of those people, or the wrong tiny subset of them, just STOPPED contributing...it could all crumble out from under them. We don't actually need to destroy anything. Just build alternative means of meeting people's needs, and make those means so radically accessible that a centralized power structure based on minority rule just won't have the bodies to do more than wound the resulting mass movement of the people.
This takes understanding power as not exactly large but fractal. Power relies on all the small moments when we all choose personal comfort over filial loyalty to other humans: it relies on us not protesting evictions, not striking; it relies on us telling others that they have to follow the rules, and believing in the necessity of rules; it relies on us all being cops and pretending we are hapless bystanders.
I'm not saying undermining power isn't uncomfortable or dangerous, or that I don't understand why people do it -- *I* fucking do it of course I understand the logic. The thing is we ALL understand the logic of compliance, and we all have at least some relevant knowledge about the kinds of interpersonal relations we would need to feel safer taking risks with our personal welfare. At the end of the day, tho, it is only our compliance that secures our compliance.

A few resultant thoughts/questions that made my forehead tense up:
Etching audio into a physical medium IS a sort of compression algorithm; analog isn't uncompressed it's just that a physical medium can have a level of data resolution in its physical arrangement that just *isn't possible* in digital.
Which leads me to the question: If a recording was made digitally or re-pressed from a digital recording for some reason, is it pointless to even put it on vinyl as the extra data from the live performance of the sound was lost the moment it got put into a digital medium?
i'm listening to gathering moss, by robin wall kimmerer, and she is talking about a very odd job she was consigned to do, where an eccentric millionaire recuited her to consult on a "habitat restoration". when she arrives, the job they actually want her to do is to tell them how to plant mosses on the rocks in his garden. he wants it to look like a specific, beautiful wild cliff in the woods nearby, with centuries-old beds of moss growing thick and strong. she tells him it is impossible. such a thing would take decades to accomplish.
later, she is called back to look at the progress of the moss garden and is amazed by the thick, well-established mosses. how did they do it? she asks.
then they take her out to the woods and show her that they have been blasting huge chunks of rock out of the cliff, packaging them in burlap, and moving them to the owner's garden.
