During the first three seasons of The Simpsons (1989-1991) produced at Klasky/Csupo, these five guys were in charge of design.

Of course they had to make "Simpsonized" versions of themselves.

I may be projecting, but I find it revealing that there is a gap between the group on the right and the three on the left. I think it symbolizes who was cool and who were the poseurs. I'll leave it to your imagination which group is which.

[inhales] hiiii i havent seen this in the notes so sorry if someone has already pointed this out but the reason they're separate is because the three on the left (Dale Hendrickson, John Rice, and Scott Alberts) were character designers mainly but Lance Wilder and Alex Dilts were generally background designers! of course there was some crossover with all of these roles as well, but Alex and Lance were known for backgrounds. Alex actually designed a majority of backgrounds for the Simpsons Movie.

it's hard to know exactly which one of them designed what on eps they both worked on, but here's a handful of their BGs that i like personally :)
