Jan van Wechelen, The Legend of the baker of Eeklo, ca. 1570
i was super intrigued by this and wanted to know more, which i found here: 'The legend is about a baker who would receive visits from people who either wanted to be cured of being βstrangeβ or βslow-wittedβ or who were just unsatisfied with their facial appearance. These people would come to the baker and he, together with his assistants, would chop off his patientsβ heads. To stop the bleeding, the head would then be replaced by a cabbage, as new, βimprovedβ heads, are being prepared, baked and then painted to replace the old ones.'
