What is Psychodynamic therapy:

is a talking therapy. This means that it

is based on the concept that talking
about problems can help people learn
and develop the skills they need to
address them.
SIRENA 4/50

It is an approach that embraces the multifaceted aspects of an

individual’s life. It strives to help people understand the
sometimes unknown or unconscious motivations behind difficult
feelings and behaviors.

Having this insight can lead to symptom relief, help

people feel better, and allow them to make better choices.
BRAND GUIDELINES 5/50

Goals of psychodynamic
theory
Psychodynamic therapy pushes for clients to:

1-Acknowledge their emotions:

Over time, clients can start to

recognize patterns in their
emotions and address them,
which can lead to making better
choices.
SIRENA 6/50

2- Enhance the client’s self-awareness:

understanding of the influence of the past on present behaviors. In

its brief form, a psychodynamic approach enables the client to
examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise from past
dysfunctional relationships.
BRAND GUIDELINES 7/50

3-Foster understanding:

of the client’s thoughts,

feelings, and beliefs in
relation to their past
experiences, especially his
or her experiences as a
child
BRAND GUIDELINES 8/50

4- Increased functioning at and ability to find satisfaction

with work:

positive emotional response you experience when doing

your job or when you are present at work. Leading
organizations are now trying to measure this feeling,
with job satisfaction surveys becoming a staple at most
workplaces.
BRAND GUIDELINES 9/50

5-Improvement in self-esteem

tend to feel positive

about ourselves and
about life in general.
And makes the person
better to deal with
life's ups and downs.
SIRENA 10/50

6- Better ability to pursue long-term goals:

it encourages you to
intentionally decide what kind
of future you’re striving for.
Instead of working aimlessly.
BRAND GUIDELINES 11/50

7- Decrease in symptoms of anxiety and depression:

psychodynamic "umbrella" that

explain why a person develops
depressive symptoms
SIRENA 12/50

8- Identify patterns.

Clients can begin to see patterns in more than just their

emotions, but also their behaviors and relationships. Or,
if clients are aware of negative patterns in their life,
therapy can help them understand why they make
certain choices and give them the power to change.
SIRENA 13/50

9-Improve interpersonal relationships

Modern psychodynamic
theory helps clients understand
their relationships, as well as
patterns they exhibit with
relationships.
SIRENA 14/50

10- Recognize and address

avoidance.

Everyone has automatic ways of avoiding bad

thoughts and feelings. Therapy can help clients
recognize when they’re acting in a way to avoid
distress and how to move forward addressing
their emotions with healthy coping mechanisms
SIRENA 15/50

11. Can Help Improve Social Functioning

more effective than a control and

just as effective as other types of
psychotherapy, such as cognitive
behavioral therapy, for supporting
those with a variety of psychiatric
symptoms and poor social
functioning.
SIRENA 16/50

12- Improved management of

aggression and
negative expressions of emotion

Emotions that can become negative are

hate, anger, jealousy and sadness. Yet, in
the right context, these feelings are
completely natural. Negative emotions
can dampen our enthusiasm for life,
depending on how long we let them
affect us and the way we choose to
express them.
SIRENA 17/50

1. Making mindful choices

Psychodynamic therapy helps an individual be more

aware of the situation.
They are also more knowledgeable about their own
capabilities.
So, when the individual now faces difficulty in life,
they can control their own actions. They can react in
a way that is best suited to deal with the situation.
