    Guidelines on the use of Flagmen and Banksmen at In Amenas and In

    Salah JV Wells Team Operated Locations (rigs, camps, yards):

    General Conditions:
    The following conditions will be adhered to:

     All forklifts, cranes, digger/back-hoes and permanently assigned trucks will have audible
    reversing alarms fitted.
     The maximum site speed limit will be 5km/hr.
     All operators/drivers will be diligent of all worker movements and will stop work if there is any
    risk of workers encroaching into a work area.

    Vehicle Specific Controls:


    The following controls apply to each of the vehicles mentioned. Where a flagman/banksman is
    indicated, it will normally be acceptable that both functions can be carried out by one person.

    Forklift Operations:
     A flagman will not normally be required for forklift operations, including reversing.
     A banksman will not normally be required for forklift operations where only the forks are used.
     A flagman/banksman will be used if any lift or conditions restricts the view of the forklift
    operator.
     A flagman/banksman will be used when a lift is being placed into a confined area and close
    control is required to avoid contacting any adjacent equipment.
     A flagman/banksman will be used when the sling attachment and slings are used to suspend and
    move a load.
     A banksman will be used when the forklift man riding basket is used. (This may be the person in
    the basket if he can communicate directly and clearly with the forklift operator.)

    Crane Operations:
     A flagman will not normally be required for crane operations. (Most cranes can normally be
    driven from the crane cab, as opposed to the driving cab, and so the operator can always face
    forward.)
     A flagman will be used when ever the crane operator cannot face forward and the crane is
    required to reverse.
     A banksman will be used for all crane lifting operations as per lifting procedures.

    Trucks Operations (winch trucks, tankers, flatbeds, frigos):


     A flagman will be used whenever a truck needs to reverse.

    Notes: Truck numbers will be restricted to avoid congestion and ensure efficient and safe operations.
    When trucks arrive, the gate guard will advise the appropriate on site leadership (JV or Enafor) to
    approve access.

    Digger/back-hoe Operations:
     A flagman will not normally be required for digger/back-hoe operations, including reversing.
     A flagman/banksman will be used on the few occasions when it is necessary to sling light loads
    from the digger/back-hoe, in order to place equipment on soft sand areas outside of the site.
