PROPER TOOL MAINTENANCE

The tool of a hammer is a wear part and tool consumption is one of the key contributors to wear part costs. But with
thorough and regular tool maintenance, we can help reduce those costs. And who is the key person for maintenance?
The Operator.

When carrying out tool maintenance, proper safety clothes are mandatory. Please remember that a tool is extremely hot
immediately after the hammer has been working. Proper tool maintenance could be divided into daily and weekly
maintenance.

Tool maintenance should be a a part of the operators daily routine. When tool maintenance is carried out on a regular
basis, greasing frequency and performance of that grease can be monitored, operating methods adjusted, and the correct
tool type for the application selected.

Correct greasing practice

The greasing practice depends on application and operating method.
Tool grease consumption is higher in applications where the tool
is penetrating and movements are longer than in impact breaking
applications where the tool is steadily against thrust ring. Greasing
should be increased in dusty applications.

In every Rammer hammer operators manual there are instructions

for the correct greasing practices, although the operator should adjust
suitable practice for the application on a daily basis. The proper
procedure is reached when wet grease is visible about the length equal
to tool diameter on the tool just beneath the housing bottom plate.

Tool sharpening
Genuine Rammer tools can be reconditioned by milling turning or by
plaining. It is important when sharpening, that the working temperature
does not exceed 200, never use gas cutting tools as they soften the
tool and causes micro-cracks that may lead to breakages.

Rammer Water Jet

Rammer water jet suppresses dust effectively in any application, and is
especially useful in both tunneling and demolition applications where there
is a high need to reduce the amount of dust caused by the breaking process.

Part no. Description

105761 Water Jet pump

Ramair
Air flush system produces compressed air to prevent dust entering the hammer
mechanism, whilst cooling the hammer when working in hot conditions. The
compressor is connected hydraulically to the excavator and is compact and
easy to install. The Ramair compressor enables better lubrication of the lower
tool bushing when the hammer is working in the horizontal position. Ramair
reduces wear on the hammers consumable components including the piston,
tool, tool bushing and wear plates, prolonging the hammers life cycle.
