Learn more about the Middle Schools philosophy in regards to technology.

Gain a deeper understanding into the educational literature pertaining to pre-teens/teens and their use of and
interaction with technology.
Reflect upon the extent to which their own beliefs about teens and technology are aligned with research.
Brainstorm solutions to some of the challenging issues related to teens and technology.
Listen to insights and ideas from MS students about how teens perceive technology.
Walk away with key resources to help guide and support parents as they navigate this complex matter.
NICE TO KNOW:

Parent Feedback:
In mid-October, we communicated a few changes in regards to how the Parent Bulletin would be structured. In response to
this email, we received feedback from a few parents who asked whether the number of steps to get to the Parent Bulletin
could be reduced. We wanted to take the time to
highlight that we now include a direct link to the
Parent Bulletin in the email notification. This link
allows parents to access the bulletin with one easy
click. We tested the friendliness of this link on
different devices and are pleased to report that the
link opens and loads quickly. We hope that this
small shift in our practice, has made accessing the
bulletin a little easier!

MS Academic Bowl:
On Tuesday, MS students participated in the Fall
Inter-School Academic Bowl. Three schools competed in this event - ISM, Faith Academy and Brent
School. We are thrilled to report that our ISM students came in first place! (Faith Academy came
second and Brent School came third.) The MS Academic Bowl Team and their coaches - Holly Elwell
(G5) and Holly Walker (G6) are shown in the photo
with their medals and the Academic Bowl trophy. Special thanks also go out to all the ISM parents who came to the event. Go Bearcats!
Kind Regards,
Rachel Harrington, Middle School Principal

ISM Boys Participate in AMIS Boys' Honor Choir Festival

Six 7th and 8th grade boys joined a music festival in Beijing, China, last week,
November 4-8, sponsored by AMIS (Association for Music in International
Schools). They prepared 10 pieces of music together with Ms. Grev at school
and in home practice time to get ready for this amazing experience of singing
with middle school boys from 8 other schools. As the intensive rehearsals with
the guest conductor, Ms. Schwartz, progressed at the festival itself, the boys
learned a great deal about how music can be shaped and developed in preparation for the final gala concert, which was held last Saturday evening. They also
got to have 2 cultural experiences of practicing Wu Shu, a form of Chinese martial arts, and visiting the Hutongs, an area downtown with narrow streets, fun
shopping, and delicious dumplings. Overall, the opportunity to share a love for
music with a large group of people was a mountain-top experience that the
boys will not soon forget. They will be singing
a few of their festivals songs at the upcoming
All Choirs Concert on Wednesday, November
25th, 5:30 pm in the FAT. We hope you will
join us!
Best Regards,
Carrie M. Grev
