1. INTRODUCTION
NOTE:
* The present manual is updated for the product it is sold with in order to
grant an adequate reference in performing diagnostics and repair
operation normally carried out by the service engineer.
The manual may not reflect changes to the product not impacting service
operations.
The scope of this Manual is to supply user instructions for a safe and
efficient operation of the device described.
This icon indicates a WARNING: the items marked by this icon refer to
, the safety aspects of the patient and/or of the operator.
2. SAFETY ASPECTS
WARNING:
, All the information provided in this chapter must be read carefully, and,
where so required, must be applied to prevent damage to the equipment
and injury to persons.
VILLA SISTEMI MEDICALI designs and builds its devices complying with
the related safety requirements; furthermore it supplies all information
necessary for a correct use.
• use of the MOVIPLAN 800S device for other than its intended use,
• damage to the device or injury to the operator or patient due to
incorrect installation and maintenance performed other than in
compliance with the procedures defined in the User and Service
Manuals provided with the device or due to incorrect operating
techniques,
• mechanical and/or electrical changes made during and after
installation.
Only the authorised personnel can remove the covers and/or have
access to the components under tension.
2.1 Warnings
The MOVIPLAN 800S is suitable for use in a hospital environment and
cannot be connected to a "domestic" electrical system.
The device has not been designed to be used in the presence of steam,
anaesthetic mixtures which are flammable in air, oxygen or nitrous
oxide.
The operator MUST ALWAYS PAY THE UTMOST CARE when the
motorised mechanisms are activated such as the vertical movement of
the table top or of the column. The red EMERGENCY button on the front
of the device can be pressed in case of danger. This button immediately
stops all movements and all functions and provides the operator with an
important safety tool in addition to the other intrinsic safety devices of
the device.
Before activating the movement of the column, check that the patient is
placed correctly on the table top with the legs and arms inside the
support area.
Although the MOVIPLAN 800S table was designed with a high degree of
protection against electromagnetic interference, it is necessary to install
it a certain distance away from electric energy transformers, continuity
static groups, pack units (walkie-talkies) and cellular phones. Use of the
latter is only permitted at a distance from the device as provided in the
table below.

All parts that come into contact with the patient must be cleaned,
and where necessary, disinfected.
Before activating the X-rays from the generating table, the operator shall
always check the alignment of the tubehead with respect to the image
receptor and should set the maximum aperture of the collimator in
accordance both with the format of the radiography cassette used and
with the distance of the cassette from the focal point of the tubehead.
Use the farthest focal point-skin distance compatible with the X-ray
examination to be performed.
WARNING:
, Before dismantling the column, lock the column's tube-carrier arm. Then
simultaneously remove the radiogenic-collimator tube and the counter-
weights of the sliding mechanism inserted in the column.

device disposed of by the user nor for the relative costs thereof.

5. PRE-INSTALLATION
The following pages provide instructions for the correct installation of the
MOVIPLAN 800S.
The supplier can provide the necessary assistance and technical
servicing as from the pre-installation phase.
The room must be prepared for the installation of the MOVIPLAN 800S
as indicated in the Figure 5-1.
The standard installation of the MOVIPLAN 800S requires the cables to
be enclosed in channels. The maximum distance allowed between
distribution box "A" and distribution box "B" (centre of the electric
cabinet which is available only in the version with elevator).
When installation is required with distances greater than those shown in
the figure, electric connecting cables of suitable lengths must be
requested when making out the order.
Requirements for a correct installation are:
• Room minimum height of 3 m.
• For transportation of the machine inside the room, the door sizes
must be as follows:
– 700 mm for the column
– 1200 mm for the packaged materials.
• In order to correctly fasten the cables that come out from the column,
it is recommended that a plastic cable trough with a 100x100 cross-
section be fixed to the back panel in correspondence with the central
point of the rail. The lower end of the trough must correspond to the
distribution box on floor "B".
The table needs a wall otherwise a cable trough needs to be installed in
order to provide a passage for the control panel, collimator and
radiogenic tube cables.

Pre-installation
WARNING:
, The general ground system must comply with the laws in force.
Insufficient grounding of the device can be extremely dangerous for
the operator and the patient and can cause malfunctions in the
electrical equipment connected to the MOVIPLAN 800S.
The device's power cable must either be connected to the X-rays
generator in series connection or to a differential thermal magnetic
switch with the following characteristics:
250V - 6A - 0.03A.
A connecting line for the emergency switch of the MOVIPLAN 800S
table with the radiology room's general mains switch must also be
installed.
See chapter 4 “Technical data” for current and absorbed power data.
6. INSTALLATION
If there is any damage or missing parts inform the shipper, Villa Sistemi
Medicali or Villa Sistemi Medicali's area representatives immediately,
giving full details of the problem.
The unit is fully tested in the factory to reduce installation time and to
optimise its functions.
NOTE:
* The device is shipped in pre-assembled groups. The mechanical assembly
consists exclusively in the assembly of these groups. Regulation of the
bearings, brakes and clamp torques is therefore made before delivery.
Any unnecessary intervention on these parts can cause malfunction of
the equipment.
NOTE:
* The operations described in this chapter must be performed for both
versions of the MOVIPLAN 800S.
Position the front rail in the room as shown in the figure, taking into
account the size of the equipment and the cable incoming distribution
box as indicated in the pre-installation (chapter 5).
Fasten the rail to the floor with the expanding plugs provided.
Check that the rail is level and if not, level using the spacers provided.
Fasten the back rail to the front rail, level and fasten to the floor using
the ø6 plugs provided.

Position the table in correspondence to the holes on the front rail. Fasten
the table to the floor with the plugs provided and to the rail with the two
TSEI M8 x 25 screws.
Check that the table is level. If necessary, use the spacers provided in the
<first aid kit>.
Check that all the parts are level and fasten:
• the front rail to the back rail
• the front rail to the table
• the front rail to the back rail and the table to the floor.

WARNING:
, Remove the two supports, there are necessary during the shipment,
positioned on the lateral parts of MOVIPLAN 800 base. Do not re-install
the relevant screws.

2. Position the column on the rail so that the bearings (two for each side
of the column) remain on the side of the guides and that the column
wheel runs on the front guide. The bearings on the back rail are
adjusted during the type-testing performed in the factory. They
therefore do not require further adjustment.

5. Manually slide the column along the entire length of the rail,
checking that it does not oscillate. If necessary, position spacers
under the rail.

WARNING:
, The column can carry tubeheads with a maximum weight of 25 kg.
1. Remove the locking pin on the tubehead, insert the tubehead on the
pin of the arm and lock in position temporarily.

5. Adjust the position of the tubehead fastening pin with respect to the
tubehead carrier arm with the adjusting screw of the fastening group.
If adjusted correctly, the tubehead-collimator group will stay in the
desired position.
2. Fasten the cables to the saddle located at the top of the column,
complying with the 2.5 m. measurement given in the following figure.

rail for the entire run is about 2- 3 mm.

WARNING:
, Before electrically connecting the MOVIPLAN 800S, check that all the
instructions and warnings given in paragraph 5.1 have been complied
with.
Disconnect from the mains before performing any operations
connected with the electrical wiring system.

WARNING:
, The Potter Bucky call signal must be set at 24Vdc. If the generator
does not provide the Bucky call signal at 24Vdc it is necessary to
generate the signal at 24Vdc making use of an external relays.
After having connected the power cables, they should be tied together to
prevent accidental contact in case of wire breakage.
Example:
Perform a calibration of the column stop angle of -27° connecting the digital
voltmeter to test points TP2 - TP6 of the logic card.
If the reading obtaining is other than 2V as indicated in Table 2, adjust
trimmer P9.

WARNING:
, Calibration of the R2 must be made exclusively with the grid in the still
position.
For the versions with the elevator, position the table top to the highest
limit, then at a distance of 100 cm between the focal point of the X-ray
source and the film in the potter bucky under the table, apply the
centimetre scale on the front surface of the column so that the 100 cm
notch corresponds to the lower edge of the slide.
For the versions with the elevator, position the table top to the maximum
highest limit, driving the motor via the controls located at the foot of the
table. Insert the tomographic shaft stop arm in position in the potter
under the table. Insert the shaft and lock the transversal tube carrier
arm of the column.
This inspection must be made every time the collimator lamp is changed.
Switch on the collimator light at a distance of 100 cm from the table top.
Adjust the knobs to 35 x 43 cm at 100 cm.
Measure the size of the light image starting from about halfway into the
penumbra. The sizes must be equal to the set values, ± 8 mm.
Check the size of the light field in the various formats indicated by the
knobs for a distance of 100 cm.
WARNING:
, Only in the case of light bulb replacement: adjust the position of the
collimator lamp until these measurements are obtained.

* Before aligning the X-ray beam with the current procedure it is necessary
to make sure that the column is perfectly vertical and the X-ray tube is
horizontal; these checks can be easily done using a bubble level.

7.11.2 Alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field of the
collimator
NOTE:
* The light beam of the collimator is calibrated in the factory so that once
the alignment between the tube and the collimator is achieved, the
alignment of the X-ray beam and the light field should be granted.
1. In order to check the alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field
of the collimator turn on the collimator light and position 4 radio
opaque objects on the borders of the light field.
2. Make an exposure on a large film positioned on the table top and
check the position of the objects; the max deviation must be less
than 3% of the in each direction and the sum of the deviation along
the two directions must be less than 4%.
3. If the alignment is not achieved within the specified limits (i.e. the
X-ray focus distance from the image plan is different from the
distance of the slot of the lamp) it is possible to act on the lamp of the
collimator, remembering that moving the lamp closer to the mirror
the light field gets smaller, while moving the lamp further from the
mirror the light field gets larger.

4. Once the optimal alignment between light field and X-ray beam has
been achieved it is possible to complete the alignment between the
X-ray beam and the image receptor (II and serial changer group).
This regulation is easily achieved moving the X-ray tube-collimator
group on the tube holder taking advantage of the regulation
tolerance. In addition, the II group allows a small regulation in its
tightening position; if the serial changer needs adjustments (the
centering is governed by the SW and adjusted in the factory) it is

Both versions with our without elevator (SA and SF) have a vertical
column with a motorised longitudinal movement.
This characteristic makes it possible to perform tomographic
examinations via a coordination device, the "tomographic shaft" with a
variable motorised fulcrum incorporated in the table.
The device has been designed for a life duration of 10 years, when
properly maintained.
WARNING:
, Read the instructions given in chapter 2 before using the table.
The size of the irradiated field, the reference axes and the luminous line
for the centering of the column with respect to the potter bucky can be
identified on the table top when the collimator light is switched on.

To load a cassette:
1. Turn the lever anti-clockwise.
2. Open the clamps.
3. Position the cassette by coinciding the center notch of the cassette.
4. Position the magnetic reference in the notch relative to the format of
the inserted cassette.
5. Turn the lever clockwise.
6. Push the clamps so that they fit tightly around the edge of the
cassette.

released and the column can be moved along the rail via the knob on
the control panel.

WARNING:
, Before making any type of examination ensure that:
• a loaded cassette is in the potter or in one of the supplementary
accessories (teleradiographer, side cassette carrier, etc.)
• the collimator is adjusted in accordance with the set focal point-film
distance and the format of the cassette used. When doing this, it is
possible to use the wound meter integrated in the collimator and the
projection of the light field corresponding to the irradiated field
• the radiogenic beam is correctly centered and aligned with the
cassette
• there are no foreign objects between the X-ray source and the
cassette.
NOTE:
* Always select the greatest focal point-film distance compatible with the
examination to be performed.
In the elevator version, the height of the table with respect to the floor
can be changed using the pedals in order to set the most comfortable
working conditions both for the patient and for the operator.
WARNING:
, The elevator pedals commands directly the elevator motor. Take care to
avoid unwanted movement of the table top caused by accidental pressure
of the elevator pedals.
WARNING:
, During the operation of the elevator make sure that no obstacle is
present in the range of the elevator movement.

3. Center the radiogenic beam with the film format moving the potter
carriage lengthways and releasing the brake via the switch located on
the table.

When the tube up and down movement brake is released via the relative
button on the column control panel, the desired focal-point-film distance
is obtained.

The focal point-film distance can be measured using the meter in the
collimator. The measurement must be made with respect to the table top.
NOTE:
* The distance between the table top and the cassette inserted in the potter
is about 80 mm. The focal point-film distance can be obtained by
summing this distance, 80 mm and the distance obtained on the
collimator meter or by adjusting the column slide in accordance with the
meter applied on the column. For example, to set a DFF of 100 cm the
tubehead must adjusted at a distance of 92 cm from the table top.
WARNING:
, The scales are graduated for focal point-film distances of 100, 150, 200
cm. If other readings are obtained the formats are no longer reliable.
Once the irradiated surface has been collimated, the device is ready for
radiography.

2. Insert the layer shaft lock arm in the back of the potter.
WARNING:
, Disconnect the device from the mains before cleaning.
Ensure that no water or other liquids penetrate inside the device in order
to prevent corrosion or short circuits.
To clean the painted surfaces, accessories and cables, use only a damp
cloth and a neutral detergent and dry thoroughly. Do not use corrosive or
abrasive solvents (alcohol, petrol and trichloroethylene).
Disinfect the table top, the potter handle, the control panel handle and
any other accessories that come into contact with the patient or the
operator, with a 2% glutaraldehyde water solution.
10. MAINTENANCE
As with all electrical apparatus, this unit not only needs to be used
correctly, but also needs maintenance operations and inspections made
at regular intervals.
Such precautions ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the device
and serve to prevent all possible risks to the patient and to the operator.
WARNING:
, Metallic friction noises issued from the column may be a symptom of
wear of the counterweight support cables. If this should occur, stop
using the device immediately and contact the Villa Sistemi Medicali
Technical Service Department.
NOTE:
* When components that have a direct or indirect influence on safety are
replaced, only original spare parts should be used.
The maintenance intervention and replacement of defective parts must be
made exclusively by Villa Sistemi Medicali authorised personnel.
