Introduction

1. INTRODUCTION

NOTE:
* The present manual is updated for the product it is sold with in order to
grant an adequate reference in performing diagnostics and repair
operation normally carried out by the service engineer.
The manual may not reflect changes to the product not impacting service
operations.

The scope of this Manual is to supply user instructions for a safe and
efficient operation of the device described.

The device must be used in compliance with the procedures described in


the Manual and must never be used other than for its specified use.

The device may only be operated by qualified persons having the


necessary training regarding X-ray protection.

The user is responsible for compliance with the legal requirements


regarding the installation and operations of the device.

If the user does not operate the device correctly or if suitable


maintenance is not performed, the manufacturer can in no way be held
responsible for breakage, injuries and malfunctions.

2. SAFETY ASPECTS

WARNING:
, All the information provided in this chapter must be read carefully, and,
where so required, must be applied to prevent damage to the equipment
and injury to persons.

VILLA SISTEMI MEDICALI designs and builds its devices complying with
the related safety requirements; furthermore it supplies all information
necessary for a correct use.

Villa Sistemi Medicali, has not to be held responsible for:

• use of the MOVIPLAN 800S device for other than its intended use,
• damage to the device or injury to the operator or patient due to
incorrect installation and maintenance performed other than in
compliance with the procedures defined in the User and Service
Manuals provided with the device or due to incorrect operating
techniques,
• mechanical and/or electrical changes made during and after
installation.

Installation and any technical intervention must only be performed


by qualified technicians authorised by Villa Sistemi Medicali.

Only the authorised personnel can remove the covers and/or have
access to the components under tension.

2.1 Warnings
The MOVIPLAN 800S is suitable for use in a hospital environment and
cannot be connected to a "domestic" electrical system.

The device has not been designed to be used in the presence of steam,
anaesthetic mixtures which are flammable in air, oxygen or nitrous
oxide.

Water or other liquids must be prevented from entering the device in


order to prevent the risk of short-circuits and corrosion.

Always disconnect the device from the mains before cleaning.

The operator MUST ALWAYS PAY THE UTMOST CARE when the
motorised mechanisms are activated such as the vertical movement of
the table top or of the column. The red EMERGENCY button on the front
of the device can be pressed in case of danger. This button immediately
stops all movements and all functions and provides the operator with an
important safety tool in addition to the other intrinsic safety devices of
the device.

Before activating the above-mentioned motorised mechanisms, check


that near the table there are no objects that could interfere with the
movement of the mechanisms. In addition, take the utmost care if there
are other persons present in the radiology room.

Before activating the movement of the column, check that the patient is
placed correctly on the table top with the legs and arms inside the
support area.

Although the MOVIPLAN 800S table was designed with a high degree of
protection against electromagnetic interference, it is necessary to install
it a certain distance away from electric energy transformers, continuity
static groups, pack units (walkie-talkies) and cellular phones. Use of the
latter is only permitted at a distance from the device as provided in the
table below.

All instruments or device used in the vicinity of the MOVIPLAN


800S must be in conformance with the Electromagnetic
Compatibility standards. Non conforming instruments, with known
low immunity electromagnetic fields, must be installed at a distance
of at least 3 m from the MOVIPLAN 800S and must be powered via
dedicated line.

The MOVIPLAN 800S is suitable for use in the following


electromagnetic environment:

and where necessary, disinfected.

2.2 Radio-protection instructions


Villa Sistemi Medicali designs and manufactures device in compliance
with the safety requirements. Furthermore, the Company supplies all the
necessary information and warnings relative to the dangers associated
with devices connected to X-ray generators.

Personnel authorised to perform radiological examinations must comply


with the safety regulations for protection against ionised radiation as
described below.

To protect the patient from radiation diffused to the areas surrounding


those to be X-rayed, protective garments (leaded garments) must be used
where necessary.

Only the patient must be present in the room during an X-ray


examination. The operator and authorised personnel must remain in the
operating station protected from ionised radiations.

Before activating the X-rays from the generating table, the operator shall
always check the alignment of the tubehead with respect to the image
receptor and should set the maximum aperture of the collimator in
accordance both with the format of the radiography cassette used and
with the distance of the cassette from the focal point of the tubehead.

During an exposure, the operator must adopt suitable precautions


and/or protection vis-à-vis the patient and him/herself. The operator is
advised to command the X-ray emission from a protected area from
where the patient is always in view.

If it is necessary to activate the X-ray emission from a position close to


the patient, suitable protection and/or leaded barriers with a screening
equivalent to at least 2 mm of lead must be used.

When necessary, accessories such as leaded aprons should be used to


protect the patient from ionised radiation.

Use the farthest focal point-skin distance compatible with the X-ray
examination to be performed.

The MOVIPLAN 800S table is made for continuous operation with


intermittent loads (all versions described in this Manual).

2.3 Environmental risks and disposal


The device contains materials that at the end of its life-cycle must be
disposed of in recovery centres assigned by the Local Health Units.

In particular, the device contains the following materials and/or


components:
• Table: Iron, lead, laminated plastic, copper, electrical components.
• Column: Iron, lead, aluminium, copper, non biodegradable plastic
materials, fibre glass reinforced plastic.
• Potter: Iron, copper, lead, fibre glass reinforced plastic, electrical
components, non biodegradable plastic materials.

WARNING:
, Before dismantling the column, lock the column's tube-carrier arm. Then
simultaneously remove the radiogenic-collimator tube and the counter-
weights of the sliding mechanism inserted in the column.

Villa Sistemi Medicali shall not be responsible for the disposal of the
device disposed of by the user nor for the relative costs thereof.

3.2 Configuration of the MOVIPLAN 800S


The MOVIPLAN 800S comes in two versions, the SA model, with the
height-adjustable table top, and the SF model, with a fixed table top.

Both versions are equipped with a 35x43 Potter Bucky, a motorised


tube-carrier column and a manual collimator with a timer lamp. These
radiological units are particularly suitable for all examinations that do
not require fluoroscopy.

• High performance (Ratio 12, focal length 120 cm, 36 pl/cm) and low

The following accessories are available for all models on request:

Pre-installation

5. PRE-INSTALLATION
The following pages provide instructions for the correct installation of the
MOVIPLAN 800S.
The supplier can provide the necessary assistance and technical
servicing as from the pre-installation phase.
The room must be prepared for the installation of the MOVIPLAN 800S
as indicated in the Figure 5-1.
The standard installation of the MOVIPLAN 800S requires the cables to
be enclosed in channels. The maximum distance allowed between
distribution box "A" and distribution box "B" (centre of the electric
cabinet which is available only in the version with elevator).
When installation is required with distances greater than those shown in
the figure, electric connecting cables of suitable lengths must be
requested when making out the order.
Requirements for a correct installation are:
• Room minimum height of 3 m.
• For transportation of the machine inside the room, the door sizes
must be as follows:
– 700 mm for the column
– 1200 mm for the packaged materials.
• In order to correctly fasten the cables that come out from the column,
it is recommended that a plastic cable trough with a 100x100 cross-
section be fixed to the back panel in correspondence with the central
point of the rail. The lower end of the trough must correspond to the
distribution box on floor "B".
The table needs a wall otherwise a cable trough needs to be installed in
order to provide a passage for the control panel, collimator and
radiogenic tube cables.

5.1 Electrical wiring set-up

WARNING:
, The general ground system must comply with the laws in force.
Insufficient grounding of the device can be extremely dangerous for
the operator and the patient and can cause malfunctions in the
electrical equipment connected to the MOVIPLAN 800S.
The device's power cable must either be connected to the X-rays
generator in series connection or to a differential thermal magnetic
switch with the following characteristics:
250V - 6A - 0.03A.
A connecting line for the emergency switch of the MOVIPLAN 800S
table with the radiology room's general mains switch must also be
installed.

Power 230Vac single phase


Frequency 50Hz

See chapter 4 “Technical data” for current and absorbed power data.

5.2 Space requirements


The space recommended at the front of the equipment is shown in the
Figure 5-1 in the preceding page.

6. INSTALLATION

6.1 Unpacking and components inspection


Upon receipt of the machine, check that the packaging has not been
damaged.
Wait for the Villa Sistemi Medicali technician or area representative
before opening the packaging and check the following:
• the goods correspond to the items ordered
• no damage was suffered during transportation.

If there is any damage or missing parts inform the shipper, Villa Sistemi
Medicali or Villa Sistemi Medicali's area representatives immediately,
giving full details of the problem.

The unit is fully tested in the factory to reduce installation time and to
optimise its functions.

NOTE:
* The device is shipped in pre-assembled groups. The mechanical assembly
consists exclusively in the assembly of these groups. Regulation of the
bearings, brakes and clamp torques is therefore made before delivery.
Any unnecessary intervention on these parts can cause malfunction of
the equipment.

Pre-installation

6.2 Rails assembly

NOTE:
* The operations described in this chapter must be performed for both
versions of the MOVIPLAN 800S.

Position the front rail in the room as shown in the figure, taking into
account the size of the equipment and the cable incoming distribution
box as indicated in the pre-installation (chapter 5).
Fasten the rail to the floor with the expanding plugs provided.
Check that the rail is level and if not, level using the spacers provided.
Fasten the back rail to the front rail, level and fasten to the floor using
the ø6 plugs provided.

6.4 Column assembly

• Remove a brake - shock-absorber to enable the column to be
inserted on the back rail

2. Position the column on the rail so that the bearings (two for each side
of the column) remain on the side of the guides and that the column
wheel runs on the front guide. The bearings on the back rail are
adjusted during the type-testing performed in the factory. They
therefore do not require further adjustment.

6.6 Connection of the upper cables


1. Connect the cables from PRL1 and PRL9 to the control cabinet, the
HV cables of the tubehead, connect the anode, the X30 terminal of
the control panel to the collimator and the ground cables.

2. Fasten the cables to the saddle located at the top of the column,
complying with the 2.5 m. measurement given in the following figure.

1. Perfectly balance the tubehead/collimator group, inserting the
necessary counter-weights in the relative container inside the
column. Reassemble the counterweight box lid and the outside back

WARNING:
, Before electrically connecting the MOVIPLAN 800S, check that all the
instructions and warnings given in paragraph 5.1 have been complied
with.
Disconnect from the mains before performing any operations
connected with the electrical wiring system.

Connect the machine cables (control cabinet, table and column) as


indicated in paragraph 6.6 and the control cables as indicated in the
following table.
After connection, tie the wires in pairs close to the terminals.

, The Potter Bucky call signal must be set at 24Vdc. If the generator
does not provide the Bucky call signal at 24Vdc it is necessary to
generate the signal at 24Vdc making use of an external relays.

7. INSPECTION, CALIBRATION AND


ADJUSTMENT
The device is precalibrated and all its functions are checked during
inspection and testing. A number of adjustments however, require a final
calibration that can only be made once installation has been completed.

7.1 Inspection of the A3 logic card power supply


To check the correct power supply of the logic card, connect a digital
voltmeter to test points TP1 and TP2 and if the value obtained is other
than 12.5 V, adjust trimmer P12.

7.2 Inspection of angle reference potentiometer


1. Position the column at the table center perpendicular to the table
top.
2. Insert the tomographic shaft.
3. Turn off the power supply to the table.
4. Take the reading of potentiometer R2 located in the tomographic
tower group (reference value 10K + 20%) connecting a voltmeter to
the ends of the potentiometer.
5. Take a second reading by connecting the voltmeter between one end
and the potentiometer cursor.
This second reading should correspond to half of the first. If not,
adjust the potentiometer.

7.3 Column stop angles control in tomography


To calibrate the column stop angles in tomography at -27° and +27°,
proceed as in the following example using Table 2 as a reference.

Example:
Perform a calibration of the column stop angle of -27° connecting the digital
voltmeter to test points TP2 - TP6 of the logic card.
If the reading obtaining is other than 2V as indicated in Table 2, adjust
trimmer P9.

7.4 Inspection and calibration of tomographic angles


To calibrate the tomography angles, proceed as in the following example
using Table 3 as a reference.

1. Bring the layer height to 120 cm.


2. Press angle S17 selection button.
3. Connect the digital voltmeter to test points TP2 and TP3 of card A3. If
the reading obtained is other than 3.37 V as indicated in Table 3,
adjust trimmer P1.
Once the negative angle (-2.5°) has been calibrated, the positive angle
(+2.5°) must also be calibrated by pressing button S17 in order to
obtain a tomography angle of 5°.
4. Connect the voltmeter to the test points TP2, TP4. If the reading
obtained is other than 3.86 V as indicated in Table 3, adjust trimmer
P5.

Before continuing with the calibration of another tomography angle,


switch off the previously activated angle selection switch (S17) and select
a new key.

7.6 Column motor drive adjustment


The drive does not need calibration as it is already adjusted.
The trimmer functions are, however, listed herebelow (see plate
topography control A1 chapter 11 - wiring diagrams).

P4: Acceleration/deceleration of the motor towards the right


(tomographic movement).
If varied, this calibration must assure that the motor always
reaches the maximum speed value set in the X-rays emission
area. To verify this:
1. Connect an oscilloscope between PINS 13 and 14 of the
drive.
2. Perform a 45° tomography.
3. On the oscilloscope, check that the profile of the movement
does not show areas of acceleration in the X-rays area.

CORRECT

P5: Motor acceleration/deceleration towards the left (tomography


load and return to center).
P6: Movement stability.
The correct adjustment generates a smooth and linear
movement of the motor.
P7 / P8: Maximum current available.

7.7 Calibration of brakes intervention time


If the optical sensor beam is interrupted, with, for example the foot, the
table top is released. The time of the brakes intervention is adjustable via
trimmer P11 on card A3.

7.8 Grid speed adjustment


The grid speed can be adjusted via the variable resistor R2.
The factory calibration guarantees a grid speed of 90 ± 5 cycles/minute.

WARNING:
, Calibration of the R2 must be made exclusively with the grid in the still
position.

7.9 Alignments and adjustments

7.9.1 Application of the centimeter scale

For the versions with the elevator, position the table top to the highest
limit, then at a distance of 100 cm between the focal point of the X-ray
source and the film in the potter bucky under the table, apply the
centimetre scale on the front surface of the column so that the 100 cm
notch corresponds to the lower edge of the slide.

7.9.2 Inspection of the light field

For the versions with the elevator, position the table top to the maximum
highest limit, driving the motor via the controls located at the foot of the
table. Insert the tomographic shaft stop arm in position in the potter
under the table. Insert the shaft and lock the transversal tube carrier
arm of the column.
This inspection must be made every time the collimator lamp is changed.

Switch on the collimator light at a distance of 100 cm from the table top.
Adjust the knobs to 35 x 43 cm at 100 cm.

Measure the size of the light image starting from about halfway into the
penumbra. The sizes must be equal to the set values, ± 8 mm.
Check the size of the light field in the various formats indicated by the
knobs for a distance of 100 cm.

WARNING:
, Only in the case of light bulb replacement: adjust the position of the
collimator lamp until these measurements are obtained.

7.10 Collimator centering, control of the X-rays field


(by special tool)
1. Using the meter inserted in the collimator, bring the X-ray source to
a distance of 100 cm from the table top.
2. Position an 18 x 24 cm cassette on which to apply a centering device
equivalent to the "Collimator Test Tool RMI".
3. Accurately center the template vis-à-vis the radiography cassette.
Then center the cassette vis-à-vis the reference cross projected by the
collimator.
4. Adjust the aperture of the collimator on the frame engraved on the
template, format 13 x 18 cm.
At a distance of 100cm, the indices of the collimator knobs must
indicate the same format.
5. Perform an X-ray with radiological parameters of 50 kV - 2 mAs and
develop the film.
6. Trace the two diagonals of the film and the diagonals of the exposed
picture with a pencil.
The distance between the two centers must be < 5mm.

If not, center the collimator via the 4 adjustment and/or fastening


screws until they are no longer non-aligned.
Take more X-rays if needed.
7. In addition, check that the darkening dimensions are the same as
those of the template image with a tolerance of <±7 mm on each side.
The format indicated on the collimator knobs must indicate a 13 x 18
cm format for a focal point-film distance of 100 cm.
If necessary, readjust the position of the collimator knobs via the
screws on the knobs.

8. Check that the image is as far as possible rectangular. Irregularity


could be caused by lack of parallelism between the X-ray source and
the table top.
9. Adjust the parallel arrangement of the X-ray source by rotating it on
its pin.
When the parallel arrangement parameters are correct, the
goniometer must give a reading of 0 degrees.
10. Upon completion of the adjustments, screw the X-ray source pin as
far as it will go.

7.11 Collimator centering, control of the X-rays field


(alternate practical method)

7.11.1 Alignment of X-ray beam with the collimator shutters

NOTE:
* Before aligning the X-ray beam with the current procedure it is necessary
to make sure that the column is perfectly vertical and the X-ray tube is
horizontal; these checks can be easily done using a bubble level.

1. Set the SID (source –image distance) at 100 cm.


2. Set on the table top a tool having two rings with the same center
positioned at different height; it is possible to use either an
Aluminium drink can or a molden glass bottle where it is granted
that the upper and lower rings have the same center.
3. Position the tool on the table top such that it looks optically aligned
with the X-ray tube; narrow the collimation field so that it is slightly
larger than the tool dimension and check that it is in the center of
the collimated area.
4. Make an exposure and check the concentricity of the image of the
two rings (Figure 7-1).

5. If concentricity is not achieved move the collimator on the cone used


to tighten the collimator to the X-ray tube and repeat steps 3 and 4
until concentricity is achieved.
6. Once concentricity has been achieved, make an exposure at
maximum SID to make sure of having achieved a good alignment.
7. Once this alignment is achieved the group X-ray tube – collimator
must be treated as a single body and the position of the collimator
with respect to X-ray tube must not be changed anymore.

7.11.2 Alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field of the
collimator

NOTE:
* The light beam of the collimator is calibrated in the factory so that once
the alignment between the tube and the collimator is achieved, the
alignment of the X-ray beam and the light field should be granted.

1. In order to check the alignment of the X-ray beam with the light field
of the collimator turn on the collimator light and position 4 radio
opaque objects on the borders of the light field.
2. Make an exposure on a large film positioned on the table top and
check the position of the objects; the max deviation must be less
than 3% of the in each direction and the sum of the deviation along
the two directions must be less than 4%.
3. If the alignment is not achieved within the specified limits (i.e. the
X-ray focus distance from the image plan is different from the
distance of the slot of the lamp) it is possible to act on the lamp of the
collimator, remembering that moving the lamp closer to the mirror
the light field gets smaller, while moving the lamp further from the
mirror the light field gets larger.

4. Once the optimal alignment between light field and X-ray beam has
been achieved it is possible to complete the alignment between the
X-ray beam and the image receptor (II and serial changer group).
This regulation is easily achieved moving the X-ray tube-collimator
group on the tube holder taking advantage of the regulation
tolerance. In addition, the II group allows a small regulation in its
tightening position; if the serial changer needs adjustments (the
centering is governed by the SW and adjusted in the factory) it is

necessary to operate according to the setting procedure outlined in


the relevant chapters of the service manual concerning memory cells
storing. Acting on the II group and on the serial changer may become
necessary only if the mechanical alignment of these two components
is not achieved, but this is seldom the case, being this calibration is
done in the factory.

7.12 Longitudinal and transversal alignment of the tube


sheath group
1. Position the X-ray source at the given distance of 100 cm.
2. Release the X-ray source transversal movement brake and lock into
the mechanical reference position.
3. Insert a cassette with an 18 x 24 cm plate in the potter. Align the
center of the potter, with the notch on the closing clamp, on the
luminous line projected by the collimator.
4. Rest the centering template on the table top aligning it with the
reference cross and with the collimator light field adjusted on the 13
x 18 cm format.
5. Take an X-ray, check the transversal and longitudinal alignment of
the X-rays field with respect to the size of the film.
Under these conditions, the transversal (base) X-rays field error can
be corrected by adjusting the position of the reference cam inserted
in the transversal X-ray source carrier arm by the same quantity as
measured on the plate.
The longitudinal (height) error can be eliminated by adjusting the
position of the metallic tab located on the front of the collimator.

6. Repeat this inspection and adjustment until an nonalignment of


<7 mm is obtained between the center of the X-rays field and the
center of the plate field.

8. GENERAL USER INSTRUCTIONS

8.1 Description of the table


The MOVIPLAN 800S radiography tables, SF and SA models, are for use
in all basic radiology examinations.

The main characteristics of the MOVIPLAN 800S is that is easy to use, it


is easy to position the patient with respect to the X-ray source, it requires
little maintenance and is of limited cost.

The "SA" version with the elevator function is mainly indicated to


facilitate access to patients who would otherwise have problems in
positioning themselves correctly on the table.

Both versions with our without elevator (SA and SF) have a vertical
column with a motorised longitudinal movement.
This characteristic makes it possible to perform tomographic
examinations via a coordination device, the "tomographic shaft" with a
variable motorised fulcrum incorporated in the table.

Both versions have a 35 x 43 cm potter bucky with oscillating grid.


The simplicity of the interfaces facilitates connection between the table
and the most commonly used X-ray generators.

The device has been designed for a life duration of 10 years, when
properly maintained.

WARNING:
, Read the instructions given in chapter 2 before using the table.

The MOVIPLAN 800S is composed of the following connected but distinct


parts:
• COLUMN
• TABLE with or without elevator.

The column can make the following manual movements:


• manual or motorised longitudinal movement along a rail

When the above movements do not need to be made, they are blocked via

The column has a manual collimator with timed lighting.

The size of the irradiated field, the reference axes and the luminous line
for the centering of the column with respect to the potter bucky can be
identified on the table top when the collimator light is switched on.

The table is composed of a lengthways sliding potter and a longitudinal


and transversal floating table top with electromagnetic brakes.

8.2 Cassette loading


To load the cassette into the potter, withdraw the container without
removing it completely.
The cassette is removed by pressing the lever located under the
container.
The self-centering clamps are always free in the "closure" direction.
In the "opening" direction, the clams are free with the lever turned anti-
clockwise and locked in position when the lever is turned clockwise.

To load a cassette:
1. Turn the lever anti-clockwise.
2. Open the clamps.
3. Position the cassette by coinciding the center notch of the cassette.
4. Position the magnetic reference in the notch relative to the format of
the inserted cassette.
5. Turn the lever clockwise.
6. Push the clamps so that they fit tightly around the edge of the
cassette.

The column can make the following movements:

• Transversal movement of the tube carrier arm


By pressing the key, the corresponding brake is released.
It is possible to vary the centering of the radiogenic beam
transversally with respect to the table top. During this movement, a
mechanical click sound can be heard in correspondence with the
central position of the potter, i.e. in the position in which the
transversal axis of the collimator is aligned with the cassette.

possible to rotate the tube carrier arm around its axis. The angle is
displayed by the goniometer.

8.6 Manual collimator


The aperture of the manual collimator must be adjusted according to the
size of the film used and the focal point-film distance desired before
performing any X-rays. Adjust the aperture using the collimator knobs in
accordance with the parameters provided in the table and the graded
scale engraved on the collimator. For focal point - film lengths different
from those indicated, adjust the aperture in accordance with the
S.I.D.(focal point-film distance) value indicated in the table immediately
above.

8.7 Operations allowed

WARNING:
, Before making any type of examination ensure that:
• a loaded cassette is in the potter or in one of the supplementary
accessories (teleradiographer, side cassette carrier, etc.)
• the collimator is adjusted in accordance with the set focal point-film
distance and the format of the cassette used. When doing this, it is
possible to use the wound meter integrated in the collimator and the
projection of the light field corresponding to the irradiated field
• the radiogenic beam is correctly centered and aligned with the
cassette
• there are no foreign objects between the X-ray source and the
cassette.

8.7.1 Preparation of the table for a standard X-ray

When the table is to be used as a normal table, the radiogenic beam


must be aligned with the potter and focal point-film distance most
suitable to the type of examination to be performed must be set.

NOTE:
* Always select the greatest focal point-film distance compatible with the
examination to be performed.

In the elevator version, the height of the table with respect to the floor
can be changed using the pedals in order to set the most comfortable
working conditions both for the patient and for the operator.

WARNING:
, The elevator pedals commands directly the elevator motor. Take care to
avoid unwanted movement of the table top caused by accidental pressure
of the elevator pedals.

WARNING:
, During the operation of the elevator make sure that no obstacle is
present in the range of the elevator movement.

To prepare for the examination:


1. Raise or lower the table to the most convenient height.
2. Insert a cassette into the potter.

3. Center the radiogenic beam with the film format moving the potter
carriage lengthways and releasing the brake via the switch located on
the table.

Longitudinal centering is obtaining after the potter container has been


partially extracted and when the luminous line projected by the
collimator coincides with the middle of the container.
Transversal centering is obtained when a mechanical click is heard from
the centering device during the transversal movement of column arm.

The patient is centered by moving the table top.


To release both side and longitudinal movements, interrupt the luminous
beam issued from the photocell on the base of the table with the foot.

When the tube up and down movement brake is released via the relative
button on the column control panel, the desired focal-point-film distance
is obtained.

The focal point-film distance can be measured using the meter in the
collimator. The measurement must be made with respect to the table top.

1. Adjust the height of the tubehead, preferably to 100 cm.


2. Check that the tubehead-collimator group is torqued to the
transversal centering device.
3. Correctly insert the cassette into the potter as far as it will go.
4. Adjust the collimator knobs in accordance with the film format and
the focal point-film distance.

NOTE:
* The distance between the table top and the cassette inserted in the potter
is about 80 mm. The focal point-film distance can be obtained by
summing this distance, 80 mm and the distance obtained on the
collimator meter or by adjusting the column slide in accordance with the
meter applied on the column. For example, to set a DFF of 100 cm the
tubehead must adjusted at a distance of 92 cm from the table top.

Set the collimation in accordance with the size of the radiography


cassette and the set focal point-film distance adjusting the collimator
knobs to the cassette format indicated by the graduated scales.

WARNING:
, The scales are graduated for focal point-film distances of 100, 150, 200
cm. If other readings are obtained the formats are no longer reliable.

Once the irradiated surface has been collimated, the device is ready for
radiography.

8.7.2 Preparation of the table for a lateral radiography

To perform a latero-lateral radiography:


1. Turn the column as described in paragraph 8.5.
2. Assemble the side support and insert the cassette.
3. Press the button on the collimator to switch on the lamp.
4. Move the column by centering the luminous beam on the support.
5. Position the patient on the table top.

8.7.3 Preparation of the table for tomography

1. Insert a cassette into the potter under the table.

2. Insert the layer shaft lock arm in the back of the potter.

3. Position the elevator to the top using the


buttons located at the foot of the table.

4. Select the tomography function by

pressing the key .

5. Insert the shaft through the tomography


tower seat. Fasten it in the transversal
arm seat of the column. Adjust the focal
point-film distance on the position set by
the column cam (DFF≅120cm). Setting
for tomography is confirmed when the
buzzer goes off.

6. Adjust the aperture of the collimator in


accordance with the 120 cm focal point-
film distance and the format of the
cassette inserted in the potter.

7. Adjust the height of the layer by pressing

one of the buttons or .

The light projected on the patient is a valid


help for a correct setting of the layer. The
selected layer height is shown on the control
panel display.

8. Select the angle and speed.

9. Set the generator for a X-rays time of


about 5 secs.

10. Perform and X-ray by keeping X-ray


buttons I° e II° pressed until the end of
tomography.

9. CLEANING AND DISINFECTION


In order to ensure maximum hygiene and cleanliness the following
instructions should be scrupulously complied with.

WARNING:
, Disconnect the device from the mains before cleaning.

Ensure that no water or other liquids penetrate inside the device in order
to prevent corrosion or short circuits.

To clean the painted surfaces, accessories and cables, use only a damp
cloth and a neutral detergent and dry thoroughly. Do not use corrosive or
abrasive solvents (alcohol, petrol and trichloroethylene).

Disinfect the table top, the potter handle, the control panel handle and
any other accessories that come into contact with the patient or the
operator, with a 2% glutaraldehyde water solution.

10. MAINTENANCE
As with all electrical apparatus, this unit not only needs to be used
correctly, but also needs maintenance operations and inspections made
at regular intervals.
Such precautions ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the device
and serve to prevent all possible risks to the patient and to the operator.

Preventive maintenance consists in inspections made directly by the


operator as indicated in the following table. Periodic maintenance shall
be made exclusively by the Servicing Department.

10.2 Periodic maintenance performed by the


Technical Service

• Visual examination of the condition of all the cables, insulation,


casings, etc.
• A systems test of the device to determine proper functions.
• Measurement of the leakage currents.
• Measurement of the resistance between the ground terminal and
every accessible conductible part which requires grounding.
• Inspection and if needed, replacement of the entire length of the
counterweight support cables and their connection points with the
counterweights and the arm.

NOTE:
* When components that have a direct or indirect influence on safety are
replaced, only original spare parts should be used.
The maintenance intervention and replacement of defective parts must be
made exclusively by Villa Sistemi Medicali authorised personnel.
