Taizé for Holy

Week
Welcome to Holy Nativity Church
in the Parish of Mixenden
and Illingworth!
Everyone is welcome here.
Holy week is a solemn time of year in which The Church
prepares for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy
Saturday and Easter Day, It is a time of reflection as we
bring our lives before God.

This is a quiet service based around the music of the

Taizé community, a monastic community in France. This
isn’t supposed to be formal, it is a fun way of worshipping
God with our voices.

The words for the minister are in normal type and the
congregation responds with the words in bold type.

The Blessing of Light

The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you

All And also with you.
The president greets the people

The officiant then lights the Paschal Candle.

Everyone lights their candle.

Blessed are you, Lord God,

Creator of day and night:
to you be praise and glory for ever.
as darkness falls you renew your promise
to reveal among us the light of your presence.
By the light of Christ, your living Word,
dispel the darkness of our hearts
that we may walk as children of light
and sing your praise throughout the world.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit:
All Blessed be God forever

3
Psalm 141
O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly; •
hear my voice when I cry to you.

Set a watch before my mouth, O Lord, •

and guard the door of my lips;

Let not my heart incline to any evil thing; •

let me not be occupied in wickedness with
evildoers.

But my eyes are turned to you, Lord God; •

in you I take refuge; do not leave me
defenceless.
This opening prayer may be said

That this evening may be holy,

good and peaceful,
let us pray with one heart and mind.
Silence is kept.

As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,

so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts
and set us free to sing your praise
now and for ever.
All Amen.

4
In the Lord I’ll be Ever Thankful

The Psalm
The psalm is read

At the end of the psalm, the following is said

All Glory to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

Reading
At the end of the reading

This is the word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.

After the reading a period of silence may be kept

5
We adore you,
O Christ, and we bless you;
All by your holy cross,
you have redeemed the world.

Christ committed no sin,

no guile was found on his lips.
All We adore you, O Christ,
and we bless you.

He himself bore our sins in his body

on the tree
that we might die to sin
and live to righteousness.
All By your holy cross,
you have redeemed the world.

By his wounds you have been healed.

All We adore you, O Christ,
and we bless you;
by your holy cross,
you have redeemed the world.

6
The Magnificat
All God’s love for us is revealed
in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,

my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour; •
he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.

From this day

all generations will call me blessed; •
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his name.

He has mercy on those who fear him, •

from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with his arm •

and has scattered the proud in their conceit,

Casting down the mighty from their thrones •

and lifting up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things •

and sent the rich away empty.

He has come to the aid of his servant Israel, •

to remember his promise of mercy,

The promise made to our ancestors, •

to Abraham and his children for ever.

All Glory to the Father and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
7
All God’s love for us is revealed
in that, while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us.

Intercessions
We pray using the following response.

O Lord Hear My Prayer

The president finishes each prayer with:

O Lord Hear Our Prayer

We sing:

8
The Collect
Almighty and everlasting God,
who in your tender love towards
the human race
sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ
to take upon him our flesh
and to suffer death upon the cross:
grant that we may follow the example
of his patience and humility,
and also be made partakers
of his resurrection;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
All Amen
The Lord’s Prayer
Jesus taught us to call God our Father,
So in faith and trust we pray

All Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
9
Nunc Dimitus

The Conclusion
May Christ, who bore our sins on the cross,
set us free to serve him with joy.
All Amen.

Let us bless the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.
