CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presented a summary of the major findings of the study, as well as

the conclusions and recommendations based on the data analyzed in the previous

chapter.

Summary

This study was conducted to determine the perceived experiences of the grade

12 HUMSS students in ICNHS towards the quality of the services provided by the

school canteen. Also, to determine the quality of the provided services in terms of

cleanliness, prices, canteen's facility, quality of the product, and staff accommodation

and where we would be able to determine the strength and weaknesses of the provided

services by the school canteen. This study was conducted to 140 respondents, through

quota sampling where 20 students each from 7 sections of HUMSS strand. This non-

experimental research was made to conduct the study. The data were gathered through

an adopted and validated questionnaire.

The findings of this study:

1. In terms of the cleanliness in the school canteen, as shown through the gathered data

the respondents with the average of (3.44-3.63) falls to the interpretation good, while

there are other respondents and with the average of (3.08-3.37) falls to satisfactory

interpretation.

2. In terms of the prices in the school canteen, the gathered data from the responses of

the respondents with the average of (2.47)falls to the interpretation poor, while other

respondents had the average of (2.8-3.26) that falls to neutral interpretation. 3. In


terms of the canteen facility in the school canteen, as shown through the gathered data

that have the average of (3.54) which falls to the interpretation good, and from the

another data with the average of (2.99-3.34) in which it falls to satisfactory

interpretation.

4. In terms of the staff accommodation in the school canteen, the data as shown with

the average of (2.75-3.16) under the key factor of Staff Accommodation falls to

satisfactory interpretation.

5. . In terms of the quality of the food products by in the school canteen, as shown

with the average of (2.9-3.33) that falls to the satisfactory interpretation, and the

gathered data with an average of (3.43-3.56) falls to interpretation good.

Conclusion

The research findings indicate that the majority of the respondents generally perceived

the quality of the services in the school canteen to be satisfactory, with the majority

expressing contentment with the variety of prices, cleanliness, canteen facility, staff

accommodation, quality of food products, where satisfactory.

1. The respondents' perception of cleanliness in the given context has resulted in an

overall mean score of 3.357, which can be interpreted as being generally satisfactory.

This implies that the cleanliness standards are meeting the expectations of the

respondents to a considerable extent. However, it is important to note that this score is

not perfect and there is still room for improvement. Maintaining and enhancing

cleanliness standards is important, as this can have a significant impact on the overall

perception of the environment and the satisfaction of the respondents.


2. In terms of the prices factor, the analysis of the data collected from the respondents

reveals a satisfactory perception, with an overall mean of 2.887. Further analysis and

investigation may be necessary to identify specific areas where improvements can be

made to enhance the overall satisfaction with prices

3. In evaluating the canteen facility, the respondents' perception generally indicates a

satisfactory level, as reflected by an overall mean score of 3.23. This suggests that the

majority of individuals find the canteen facility to meet their expectations and needs

adequately. However, there is always room for improvement, and they should

continue to explore ways to enhance the canteen facility's service offerings to further

increase the satisfaction level of the respondents.

4. In terms of staff accommodation, the general perception of this factor among the

respondents is one of satisfaction, with an overall mean rating of 2.93 on a scale.

Further analysis of the data may reveal specific areas of concern or strengths within

staff accommodation, providing valuable insights for decision-makers looking to

enhance the overall experience for staff.

5. In terms of the quality of the product, the overall perception of the respondents is

generally satisfactory. This is based on the data collected from the survey, which

shows that the average rating given by the respondents for the quality of the product is

3.29. This indicates that the majority of the respondents find the product to be of good

quality and fit for their needs. While the overall rating is satisfactory, there may be

specific areas where the product can be further enhanced to better meet the needs of

the consumer and by making the necessary improvements; this service can further

strengthen in providing products to the consumers.


Recommendation

Since the result showed that the canteen service quality is on the student perceptions in

moderately satisfied, then, the following recommendations are formulated:

THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR, SCHOOL CANTEEN MANAGEMENT, AND

STAFFS: may take action by organizing the enhancement of the services provided to

students in the school canteen. Additionally, they might look at what is considered an

acceptable or reasonable price for the goods and come up with ideas for improving and

presenting the canteen's appearance, convenience, and cleanliness. They may also observe

the food preparation, nutrition and health, safety food handling types of food served, and

facilities that the canteen managed and operated.

FOR FUTURE RESEARCHER: this study is recommended for further

investigation, which may assist learners, teachers, and other stakeholders in

understanding their perceptions towards canteen services. Additionally, this study can

serve as a reliable source or foundation basis for future studies related to canteen

services, where they might consider a variety of other factors that could help the

school in providing services specifically school canteen services to enhance their

offerings and improve the overall experience for students.

ABSTRACT

A canteen is where food is served and eaten and where different snack and

drink products are sold. The school has a canteen so that students will not be required

to travel far away from the school. A school utilizes a canteen to meet the food and

nutritional needs of its students for them to have the energy to complete daily tasks

and participate more in extracurricular activities Galabo (2019). The purpose of this

study is to evaluate the perceptions of Grade 12 HUMSS students on the quality of

services in the school canteen and to determine the quality of the services as perceived

by the students in terms of: (1) cleanliness, (2) quality of the products, (3) prices and

(4)location. The researcher will use a Non-Experimental Survey Research Design,

employing a secondary survey questionnaire with Likert scale questions to gather

information relevant to the study's objectives. This approach allows for statistical

analysis, ensuring the data collected is both accurate and reliable. The research shows

that respondents generally find the school canteen services satisfactory. Cleanliness

received a mean score of 3.357, prices 2.887, canteen facilities 3.23, staff

accommodation 2.93, and quality of food products 3.29. While these scores indicate

general satisfaction, there is room for improvement in each area to further enhance

overall respondent satisfaction. This study aims to benefit students, parents, school

canteen personnel, and future research. It will help identify areas of improvement in

canteen services, enhancing student well-being and academic environment. Students

will benefit from improved food choices, parents will have peace of mind about food
safety, canteen staff can enhance services, and school administration can better

manage the canteen for the benefit of all stakeholders.
