EVENT REPORT

Crosswinds

Date - 25th and 26th March


Time - 9 am - 6:30 pm
Venue - College Hall
Participation - 500
Crosswinds, the annual inter-collegiate fest of the Music is the biggest event conducted by
the society. Post-auditions, numerous teams selected for each of the competitions, are
invited for the final rounds conducted in the college premises. Prominent judges were also
invited to the competitions. There are three main events under Crosswinds – Cadenza
(Aria and Chorale), Tarannum (Sruthi and Tarangini), and finally School of Rock (Battle of
Bands). This year, Crosswinds was conducted by the Music Society in collaboration with
The Students Union Society along with Harmony, the annual fest of the college on 25th
and 26th March 2023 The venue for the events conducted under Crosswinds was the
College Hall.

Cadenza
Cadenza is the Western music event held as a part of Crosswinds, the annual inter-college
fest of the Music Society. This year, the event was conducted on Saturday, 25 March 2023,
and included western solo and acapella competitions. The preliminary round of the event
was held online through video submissions and out of 77 registrations received for the solo
competition, 10 participants were shortlisted for the finals. For acapella, 10 teams were
selected out of 21.

The final rounds of both competitions took place in the College Hall with Mr. Daniel
Ratna Khawas and Mr. Gaurav Vohra as the judges. Aria, the western solo competition
began at 11:30 AM and concluded at 1:00 PM with the judges announcing the results.
Surabhi Sundram (Gargi College) won the first prize, Phyobemo Khuvung (Deshbandhu
College) was the runner up and the third prize was shared between Aroma Mathews
(Kamala Nehru College) and Prableen Kaur (Motilal Nehru College). The western acapella
competition started at 1:45 PM, after a short interval. A host performance by Sound
Machine, the western acapella team of our college kicked off the event, after which 10 teams
from various colleges in Delhi University performed. The competition ended at 5 PM with
Musoc (Kirori Mal College), Echo (Jesus & Mary College), and Orpheus (Miranda House)
placing first, second, and third, respectively.
Tarannum
Tarannum was the Indian Classical Event of the Music Society’s Annual Fest: Crosswinds
(2023), held on 26th March 2023 in the College Hall. The 2 competitions under Tarannum
were (i) Sruthi: The Indian Classical Solo singing; and (ii) Tarangini: The Group singing
competition. Both events were judged by Ms. Aswathy Subha and Mr. Aman Panchal, who
received their musical education under renowned maestros and institutions. The event
Sruthi had 5 singers who bejeweled the afternoon with their mellifluous renditions of
Hindustani and Carnatic pieces, accompanied by tabla and tanpura. This was followed by
the performance of a fusion of a Carnatic Varnam and Tarana in Raag Hamsadhwani by the
Indian Classical Choir of St. Stephen’s College: Naqsh. Following this performance was the
competition Tarangini, wherein teams from 6 colleges across Delhi University showcased
their classical pieces, teamwork and effort. During the period of result formulation, the hall
was adorned with the voice of another member of Naqsh who performed ‘Sanware Aa
Jaiyo’, accompanied by tabla and harmonium. The event which commenced at 12 noon
came to closure around 2:30 pm, with the Judges announcing the winners and sharing their
valuable comments with the participants.
School of Rock
School of Rock was the battle of the bands event of Music Society’s Annual Fest:
Crosswinds (2023), held on 26th March in the College Hall. This event provided a platform
for all aspiring and interested performers and singers to showcase their talents. The event
united a huge variety of people, connected by their passion for music. The judges for the
event were Noel Sakhi and Mang Kipgen who have received their musical education under
renowned maestros and institutions. The event began with a host performance by the band
of St. Stephen’s College. Later, the competition began with ten colleges from all over the
circuits of Delhi participating and competing against each other. Various genres of music
were entertained. The event commenced at 3.30 PM and ended by 6 PM with the judges
announcing the winners and sharing their valuable comments with the participants.
