An Ode to our Professors: Teachers' Day Celebration, 2023

Date: 5th September, 2023

Venue: College Auditorium, LSR

The college auditorium on Tuesday was graced by the presence of the college’s beloved professors
and the student body, who were brimming with enthusiasm and excitement to welcome the faculty
members with open arms. The event commenced with a welcome address by the event heads of the
Student Council, which was soon followed by a mesmerising performance by the members of the
Indian Music Society, Dhwani, to officially kick start the event. The enchanting folk melodies
performed in Bengali and Hindi captivated the hearts of the audience and soothed their souls. While
the auditorium was still echoing and reverberating the melodious voices of the Dhwani members,
Professor Jyotsana Arora, the Staff Advisor of the Student Council, addressed the crowd to emphasise
the significance of a cordial student-teacher relationship, which ensures mutual learning and cohesive
growth.

The Drama Society, through its theme-based play entitled “Teachers:Amalgamation of Expressions
and Portrait of Human Diary'', addressed the audience’s aversion to the idea that professors can face
the same obstacles as students. Lakshita Sharma, one of the scriptwriters of the production says, “The
production wanted to humanise the figure of the professor”. In a tumultuous time of new
overburdening rules, professors have been forced to play the antagonist. The play compels us to see
their humane side. Our socially constructed perspective is put into question when the actors portray
the professor figure in its entirety. Their vulnerability and angst are depicted through scenes set in
staff rooms where mental health struggles are explored. The act was displayed exceptionally well
through music, dance, and witty lines. The scriptwriters encapsulated the play’s essence in the closing
line “A teacher has her own journey woven in a book, and this journey, experiences can never be
summed up within the lengths of a few pages”

The play succeeded with a short and fun game segment called “Never Have I Ever” played with the
mentors to tickle their funny bone and unveil their secrets to the students.

The Dance Society’s performance was a thrilling illustration of how fun college events are. Their
performance revitalised the atmosphere which had been battered down by the heat. All three wings
put up an excellent performance which invited rapturous applause. The outfits and the songs were
certainly memorable.

The audience was left in awe and amazement after witnessing the performances of talented Elsas in
the open mic segment, where the eloquent singing, dance to energetic music beats, and impactful
poetry recitation by the students became reflective of their dedication to showcase their love and
respect for the professors through different mediums of expression.

Towards the end of the event, the audience became privy to a compilation of warm and personalised
messages from every department, where students could be seen cheerfully wishing and thanking their
professors for being their guiding lights and making the magic of LSR come true. The event came to a
conclusion after the SU President, Jagriti Mishra, delivered the vote of thanks to extend her gratitude
towards the volunteers who tirelessly worked towards making the event a success.
