INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Technology is the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes or application,

whether in industry or in our everyday lives. So, basically, whenever we use our scientific

knowledge to achieve some specific purpose, we're using technology.

Technology can be used for instant assessment in many different ways, such as tracking

student progress over time. Edtech can also be used to aid formative assessment:

helping to boost engagement, identify knowledge gaps, and support further/deeper

learning.

Introducing technology in learning reduces repetitive learning. Teachers can introduce

new subjects, techniques, and projects to create an engaging learning environment.

Technology can be used to plan lessons creates a better planner in a way that would help

meet the needs of all students.

Technology plays a role in enhancing interactions between teachers and students by

providing opportunities for communication, collaboration, and personalized learning

experiences. Teachers can interact with students to clear their doubts and make e-

learning more effective. Technology enables one-on-one interaction in the classroom

online.
Technology also motivates students to learn. They look forward to having time on their

devices to explore and learn things through websites, videos, apps, and games. Students

can learn and have fun at the same time, which helps them stay focused on their

academic learnings.

Technology can be used for instant assessment in many different ways, such as tracking

student development over time. Edtech can also be used to aid formative assessment:

helping to boost engagement, identify knowledge gaps, and support further/deeper

learning.

Technology empowers students to take ownership of their learning, expanding

opportunities for self-directed and personalized learning experiences. Online courses

and educational apps offer flexibility, allowing students to learn at their own pace and

adapt their educational journey to suit their individual needs.

The importance of Technology in Education is not just limited to efficient learning, but

students can also have their personalized learning opportunities. Availability of more

resources or ideas 24/7 to students allows them to personalize learning better. We all

know that not all students have the same learning frequency; thus, personalized

learning is considered. Personalize learning is also known as self-paced learning, which

can help individuals optimize the quantity of material according to their capability.

Technology provides great opportunities for making learning more effective for

everyone with different needs and knowlegde. For example, students can learn at their

own speed and capacity, review difficult concepts or skip ahead if they need to. What is

more, technology can provide more opportunities for the students who struggles with
their academic performance or disabled students..Studies have shown that technology-

based schooling environments can lead to better student engagement and effective

learning. Providing students with familiar tools and platforms they are more likely to be

engaged and get more out of the learning experience.

By integrating technology into education, students acquire digital literacy skills,

including information literacy, media literacy, and critical thinking. They become

proficient in using productivity tools, online research, and data analysis, which are highly

valuable in the modern workforce.

The importance of Technology in Education is not just limited to efficient learning, but

students can also have their personalized learning opportunities. Availability of more

resources/ material 24*7 to students allows them to personalize learning better. We all

know that not all students have the same learning frequency; thus, personalized

learning is considered. Personalize learning is also known as self-paced learning, which

can help individuals optimize the quantity of material according to their capability.

Technology is the only tool that helps to improve the education system in different

ways. From teachers to students, technology leaves a great impact on education.

Modern EdTech makes education more flexible and perceptive. Various technology

driven education tools have introduced free online resources, personalized learning

materials, more engaging content, and a better understanding of visuals and

opportunities for advanced learning.

Overall, the role of technology in the learning process of the students is, by using

technology it gives a lot of opportunities to the students to enhance their knowledge,

communication, and talents by using technology. Also, technology is a tool to improve

the the student learning process.

This research aims to overlook the role of technology in the learning process of the

students in Bubonga Marantao National High School.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following question:

1.) What is the socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 Age

1.2 Sex

1.3 Academic achievements

1.4 Year level

2.) What is the role of technology in the learning process of the students in Bubonga

Marantao Nationa High School?

3.) What is the benefits of conducting this research about the role of technology in the

learning process of the students?

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

Since the 20th century, some major educational theories, such as Behaviorism,

Cognitivism, Constructivism and Multiple Intelligence, have been widely implemented in

education, greatly linked to the development and utilization of the educational

technology. Ivan Pavlov (1949-1936), Russian biologist and psychologist, innovated

behaviorism, Edward Thorndike (1874-1949), American educator and psychologist of

Columbia University and Burrhus Frederic Skinner (1904-1990), one of the founders of

American new behaviorism, further developed the behavior theory. Behaviorists believe

external stimulation influences one’s leaning behavior, rewards and punishment can

change one’s learning performance. Researchers and scholars confirmed that

Behaviorism has greatly promoted and effectively implemented in programmatic

instruction, and has strongly promoted and widely applied in computing-assisted-

instruction and the development of educational technology.

Cognitive theory concerns those mental processes that cannot be observed through

human beings’ problem solving process and human beings’ learning strategies. It studies

human brains’ thinking process. Cognitivists believe that a human being possesses

intrinsic modes of receiving, processing and utilizing information at different cognitive

development stages; advocate the study of people’s cognitive development processes

and models, and design different instructional programs based on one’s cognitive

development needs at different developmental stages. This theory is represented by

Jane Piaget (1898-1980), Jerome Seymour Bruner (1915- ) and David P. Ausubel (1918-

2008). In education, cognitive developmental theory is to develop students' capabilities

of creative thinking, information analyzing, and problem-solving through computer-

assisted instruction.

Constructivist theory is in favor of letting students to construct their point of view of

the world, philosophy of living, technical expertise, and knowledge structures;

emphasizes one’s learning initiative, and social and situational learning experiences. The
core of this theory is discovery learning. Students learn by doing. John Dewey (1859-

1952), a well-known educational psychologist, believed that practicing is a foundation

of learning, and without learning practice, students would get lost. He stressed that

students construct their knowledge in practice, and instructional design should respect

students’ psychological development needs. Former Soviet psychologist Vygotsky

proposed a social constructivist theory that emphasizes one’s social and cultural

backgrounds to determine one’s behavior. He believed human’s growth is a product of

culture. The influence of Constructivist theory on the development and implementation

of educational technology is mainly reflected in the pioneering educational games,

multimedia development and dynamic online interactions.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

This study aims to conduct the specific ideas in the researchers towards students about

the role of technology in their learning progress and the benefits of teachnology towards

their academic performance. Hence, the result of the study will benefit the following:

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Related Literature

According to Mohammad R. (2018) , The use of technology has become an important

part of the learning process in and out of the class. Every language class usually uses

some form of technology. Technology has been used to both help and improve language
learning. Technology enables teachers to adapt classroom activities, thus enhancing the

language learning process. Technology continues to grow in importance as a tool to help

teachers facilitate language learning for their learners. This study focuses on the role of

using new technologies in learning English as a second/foreign language. It discussed

different attitudes which support English language learners to increase their learning

skills through using technologies. In this paper, the researcher defined the term

technology and technology integration, explained the use of technology in language

classroom, reviewed previous studies on using technologies in improving language

learning skills, and stated certain recommendations for the better use of these

technologies, which assist learners in improving their learning skills. The literature

review indicated that the effective use of new technologies improves learners’ language

learning skills.

Related Studies

According to Gopo C. (2022) in his study states that, Technology is one of the most

powerful influences in today's educational scene. This mixed methods study aimed to

determine and describe the lived experiences of senior high school learners in terms of

the role of technology in 21st century education. The researcher collected data from 100

senior high school (SHS) learners using simple random sampling for the quantitative

phase (QTP) and five from SHS students using purposive sampling for the qualitative

phase (QLP) for SY 2021-2022. Survey questionnaires and an in-depth interview guide
were utilized to gather data and were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and

thematic analysis. Results revealed that because of the widespread availability of

internet mobile connections, there has been a significant number of students that use

technology. As a result, students have a high level of computer skills and use of

technology because it is useful and relevant in the educational process. Similarly,

students see the value of incorporating technology into classroom discussions since it

increases their interest in the subject. Furthermore, technology is viewed as an

important tool for learning, and the importance of using social media is proved by

learners' average daily usage. The introduction of popular media into the lives of

students has had a significant impact on this. Despite the negative effects of social

media, students still find it useful in the classroom since it can spark other people's

interests and inspire them to learn. It implies that instructional delivery and assessment

need to be addressed with respect to the needs of the 21st century learners.
