What’s New
Updates to C-Gate include:

C-Bus DALI-2 Gateway

• Additional Measurement and Error Reporting application parameters are now supported in
this release (future client feature).

C-Bus Digital Dimmers

• The network burden property of the digital dimmer devices are now supported in the
network calculator in this release.

Performance Improvement

• Support has been added for the extended range of C-Bus replies for both new input and
output devices in this release.

Fixes
• Fixed an issue with setting the C-Bus power supply property for new output devices (future
client feature).

What’s New
Updates to C-Gate include:

C-Bus Digital Dimmers

In this release, support has been added for the dimmer mode and override flags in SET Commands in
the C-Bus Digitial Dimmer device DIMDD4 (5504D2D) and DIMDD8 (5508D1D).

C-Bus Automation Controller and Application Controllers

In this release, support has been added for version 1.16.0 of the C-Bus Automation Controller and C-
Bus Application controller. This applies to the following devices:

o SYS_SHAC (5500SHAC & LSS5500SHAC)

o SYS_NAC (5500NAC & LSS5500NAC)
o SYS_NAC2 (5500NAC2)
o SYS_AC2 (5500AC2)

Fixes
• Unexpected error when scanning C-Bus Universal Dimmer device (DIMDU4).
• Project conversion issues:
• Some projects appear with a “Failed” status (in C-Bus Commission and Toolkit), which may
result from:
o A conflict in the conversion process between project files
o Importing a Toolkit backup project and proceeding to replace an existing project
o XML files that are not actually project files (e.g. device template files)
o Device template file is not being handled and incorrectly recognised as a normal
project.
o The conflict between the project XML files in backup folder and the XML file in
Projects root folder, during Toolkit Project Restore operation.
o Project not converted successfully is not reflected as Failed in PROJECT DIR
command.
• When a project file is imported and replaced using Toolkit the XML project file shall not
remain in the root project folder.
• Project XML files will be restore if a project conversion has failed.

Known issues
• Incorrect project conversion status reflected in C-Bus Commission or Toolkit upon restart.
Workaround: Close all C-Bus commissioning clients (both C-Bus Commission software and
Toolkit) and restart the application(s).
• Some projects appear with a “Failed” status (in C-Bus Commission and Toolkit), which may
result from:
o A conflict in the conversion process between project files
o Importing a Toolkit backup project and proceeding to replace an existing project
o XML files that are not actually project files (e.g. device template files)

Updates to C-Gate include:

• Update C-Bus DALI-2 Gateway firmware version default to version 1.7.0.

• Device update to support C-Bus DALI-2 Gateway and DALI Device Primary Control Function.
• Added support for C-Bus Network Devices section firmware update notification.
• Fixed the transfer of new levels to a C-Bus Controller within existing groups (refer to
SpaceLogic C-Bus Commission 2.0.1 – DALI-2 Gateway Hotfix release notes for full details).

Fixes
Project conversion in “Failed” or “Waiting” state.

• A data migration bug that may affect the conversion of some projects from XML to the new
format is now resolved.

Known issues
• C-Gate may still be running after closing the software.
• After the installation is complete, C-Gate will start up automatically.

What’s New
Folder Changes
This release changes where the C-Gate application and its project files are stored on disk.

C-Gate is now installed into C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\C-Gate 3 by default.

Project files are stored in C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\ C-Bus Commission 2\Projects

Project Format Change

This release introduces a new database format for projects, replacing the old XML format.

This new project format is not editable outside of C-Gate and other associated C-Bus software.

This new project format is not compatible with C-Gate 2 or below.

Old format projects are converted by C-Gate automatically to the new format as a background task
when C-Gate is started. Projects are converted according to their last modified date, meaning that
the most recently used will be converted first. Projects waiting to be converted or in the process of
conversion cannot be opened until they have been successfully converted.

After conversion, backups of the old format projects can be found in

C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\ C-Bus Commission 2\Projects\ProjectName\XML Backup Files

where

• YourUserName is the name of your user account

• ProjectName is the name of the C-Bus project that was converted

We strongly recommend creating a separate back up of projects before installing and running
this release.

C-Bus DALI-2 Gateway

This release adds support for the C-Bus DALI-2 Gateway (5502CDGP230) and DALI devices.

DIMDD4 / DIMDD8 Dimmers

This release adds support for the DIMDD4 (5504D2D) and DIMDD8 (5508D1D) dimmer devices.

Command API Changes

The PROJECT DIR command has been enhanced with a new optional parameter that includes
additional information in the responses. If the parameter is not specified, then the responses are the
same as in previous versions of the command.

There have been cybersecurity improvements to the command API.

Installing on Linux
Prerequisites

• A 64-bit Linux operating system

o Linux installation testing was performed on Ubuntu 22.04.3
• The C-Gate 3.2 package (cgate-3.x.x_xxxx.zip)
• A 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
o JRE 1.8.0_202 is the recommended and supported version, which can be downloaded
from the Oracle website

Currently only 64-bit Linux operating systems are supported for installation

Folder Structure
The application folder is the folder where CGate.jar is located.

The application data folder is the folder where log and configuration files are stored. This location is
defined by the CGATE_APPDATA environment variable.

The home folder is the folder where project files are stored. This location is defined by the
CGATE_HOME environment variable.

Clean Installation

1. Install the JRE and ensure it is set as the default

2. Extract the C-Gate zip package into
o /usr/local/bin/cgate3
3. Set the CGATE_HOME and CGATE_APPDATA variables as permanent environment variables as
defined below. If these variables are not set, then C-Gate will attempt to write project, log and
configuration files in the same folder as CGate.jar (in which case ensure that the user account
used to start C-Gate has been granted read and write permissions to that location)
o CGATE_HOME = /home/<username>/cgate3/home
o CGATE_APPDATA = /home/<username>/cgate3/appdata
4. Create the folders below (corresponding to the environment variables)
o /home/<username>/cgate3/home/Projects
o /home/<username>/cgate3/appdata/config
5. Navigate to
o /usr/local/bin/cgate3
6. Execute
o java -jar cgate.jar

Migrate Existing Installation

• Make a backup of the C-Gate 2 folders.

o Make a separate backup of the tag folder if the project XML files are not stored in the
default folder C-Gate2\tag
• Follow steps 1 – 4 of the Clean Installation
• Copy files from the C-Gate 2 tag folder to the C-Gate 3 Projects folder
• Copy the CGateConfig.txt file from C-Gate 2 to C-Gate 3 (if needed)

• SLCC-1078: The DBNEW and DBSAVE commands are not working
