3. JOB PURPOSE
The aim of this peer research assistant post is to support and develop candidates from
non-academic backgrounds who are interested in gaining skills and experience in applied
health research. We are looking for a motivated, independent and enthusiastic candidate
to join us as a peer research assistant working across the BiB Age of Wonder team and
the Centre for Co-production and Peer Research (CoPPeR) Network. As a peer research
assistant, candidates will be interested in developing their research and project delivery
skills, while contributing their knowledge and skills gained through lived experience and
community involvement to these teams.
4. JOB DIMENSIONS
Successful candidates will support a range of research activities including community
engagement, participant recruitment, study design, and communication of BiB projects
with various audiences (e.g. schools, community groups, Bradford Council, University of
Bradford). Successful candidates will work with the research team to develop their
research skills and experience, including producing literature reviews, developing research
questions and evaluation plans, collecting and analysing quantitative (e.g. questionnaires)
and qualitative (e.g. focus groups and interviews) data, and contributing to meetings and
events with senior staff, partner organisations, key stakeholders and the local community.
Training and support will be facilitated, and the post-holder may be required to complete
relevant research training courses. The post-holder will also actively engage and work with
local community members and organisations.

Take a supporting role in co-production and engagement work with various local
stakeholders (e.g. community groups, schools, clubs etc.) assisting in ensuring we are
conducting research in the right way
Develop ideas for using social media (particularly Twitter, Instagram, and our website) to
promote BiB and Age of Wonder research and engage with members of the community
(both adults and young people)
Maintain a high level of professional conduct, becoming familiar with research governance
protocols and adhering to them to ensure confidentiality and data security.
Use experiential expertise to inform the development of new research proposals, funding
applications, ethics applications, new or existing research projects, and publications.
Provide general support for specific projects within the BiB Age of Wonder and CoPPeR
Research portfolios. Support duties may include:
Assisting in the recruitment and consenting of participants for research
Administering questionnaires, basic anthropometric measures according to study
protocols for the collection of timely, accurate and complete data from participants
Inputting and analysing data (with appropriate support from experienced research staff)
Being familiar with research protocols and work within the research governance
framework.
Ensuring confidential storage of all data
This is a description of the duties of the post as it is at present. This is not intended to be
exhaustive and does not therefore form part of your contract of employment. The job will
be reviewed on a regular basis in order to ensure that the duties meet the requirement of
the service and to make any changes necessary. This procedure will be conducted by
each manager in consultation with those working directly with him/her. You will, therefore,
be expected to participate fully in such discussions.

Terms and Conditions:
1 Probationary Period
New employees appointed to Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust covered
by Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions (whether on a fixed term or substantive
basis) are subject to a probationary period. The length of your probationary period is
dependent on your length of contract as detailed in the table below. During this time you
will be required to demonstrate to the Trust your suitability for the position in which you are
employed. This period may be extended at the Trust’s discretion and is without prejudice to
the Trust’s right to terminate your employment before the expiry of the probationary period.
In the event that a decision is taken to terminate your contract of employment during or at
the end of your probationary period, you will be entitled to a notice period in line with the
statutory timescales, which for employees with less than one year’s service is one week.

2 Pension Scheme
New starters to the Foundation Trust will be auto-enrolled into the NHS Pension Scheme
subject to qualifying criteria at the appropriate contribution rate. Contribution rates can be

3. Annual Leave The leave entitlement for this job is *262.5* hours, pro rata
(inclusive of bank holidays).
Your leave entitlement will rise to *277.5* hours, pro rata after
5 years NHS Service and to *307.5*, pro rata hours after 10
years NHS Service (inclusive of Bank Holidays).
6. Sickness Absence Employees absent from work owing to illness will be entitled,
subject to the conditions of the agreement and appropriate
certification, to receive sick pay in accordance with the
Department of Health Agenda for Change agreement (which
may be varied from time to time by the NHS Negotiating
Council). For details of the sick pay scheme please access
the “Agenda for Change” staff Terms and Conditions via the
Department of Health Website www.nhsemployers.org , or the
HR Pages of the Trust Intranet.
