Introductory Message
For the facilitator
This module is prepared to guide you as you facilitate teaching and as
you assess learning of the competency – Make connections between
information viewed and personal experiences. This learning package
consists of a series of activities to be done by the learner. You, as the Learning
Buddy is requested to provide assistance as the learner goes through the
activities by clarifying directions and discussing important concepts to be
learned.
This module makes use of a video clip which serves as springboard for
skill development. A number of exercises are provided before the learner is
asked to make connections between information viewed and personal
experiences.

For the learner:


This module is prepared for you in order to help you make
connections between information viewed and personal experiences. Viewing
materials are provided through the links given in the series of activities. You
may ask the help of your parents, elder siblings or the Knowledge Source to
access the given links and download the video clips. After viewing the clips,
there are questions for you to answer. Happy viewing and be able to connect
it to your own experiences!
This learning module package consists of a series of activities. It
features the following important parts:

• What I Need To Know. This part tells what are expected of the
learner and clearly explains what competencies, knowledge, skills and
attitude he/she must have learned at the end of the learning sessions.

• What I Know. This part assesses the learner’s understanding of the


past lesson.

• What’s In. This part introduces the new lesson, serves as the
springboard or opener for discussion and series of activities. It also
engages the learner’s interest and leads the learners towards the
performance of the tasks.

• What’s New. This part discusses the key concepts of the lesson at
hand.

• What Is It. This part presents an initial activity about the new skill.

• What’s More. This contains series of activities – drills, experiences
and activities which provide enough practice for the learner so that
he/she can perform the skills automatically.

• What I Have Learned. This states the important concept or concepts


learned from the series of activities.

• What I Can Do. This part encourages the learner to work


independently for further application of knowledge and skills.

• What I Can Do On My Own. This serves as the highlight of the series


of activities where the learner measures his/her level of mastery of the
skill upon completion of the tasks.

• What I Can Do More. This provides additional exercises for mastery


of the competency.

• Answer Key. This section provides answer keys for the series of
activities.

• References. These include list of resources used in the making of


this module and that the learners may refer to for further reading.

Please do not write anything on this module as this will be used by


other learners like you. Use either your paper or test notebook to answer the
different activities.

What I Need to Know

This module was carefully designed and written on your level of


understanding and in your best interest. As you go through, you will be able
to enrich your skills in making connections between information viewed and
personal experiences. The language and vocabulary used is intended for you
as an intermediate learner.

- view materials critically and meaningfully;
- comprehend and evaluate information presented by television, video
clip, recordings, and other visual media; and
- make connections between information viewed and personal
experiences.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
Lesson BETWEEN INFORMATION VIEWED
AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

The usual four skills in teaching English are reading, writing, speaking,
and listening. In the K to 12 Curriculum, the fifth skill added was viewing
which uses visual arts. Now that we live in a visual world where images are
available in different platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram,

Twitter, etc., these contributed to the development of knowledge and skills,
gathering of information and making connections to personal experiences.
As a grade 6 pupil, you must learn how to analyze and evaluate visual
image – someone who makes meaningful connections between what is viewed
and experienced. This module would help you to become more effective,
active, interpretative viewer to be able to take part on what is happening
around you.

Making Connections between Information Viewed and Personal


Experiences
Making connections is an excellent way to deepen your engagement
and understanding of any material you read or watch. It is important to
connect learnings to your experiences. Your personal experience will help you
understand what you read or view and make connections with it. This skill
is important as you are exposed to many informational materials.
How would you make connections between the information you have
viewed and your personal experiences? In the activity in What’s In, you have
viewed about the environment and how to keep it. You were able to answer
the questions because that’s what you are doing and related to your
experiences.

Thus, the more connections you can make, the better you understand
the meaning that it wants to convey and the more meaningful constructing
meaning is.
