arketing executives are involved in developing marketing campaigns that promote a


product, service or idea. The role includes planning, advertising, public relations, organising
events, product development, distribution, sponsorship and research. The work is oIten
challenging, varied and exciting.
The responsibilities oI a marketing executive will vary, depending on the size oI the
organisation and sector, and whether the Iocus is on selling a product or service or raising
awareness oI an issue that aIIects the public.
As many organisations have marketing departments, marketing executives can be Iound in
both the private and public sectors, Irom the Iinancial, retailing and media industries to
voluntary and public sector organisations.
arketing executives may also be known as marketing oIIicers or coordinators.

arketing executives contribute to and develop integrated marketing campaigns. Tasks


typically involve:
liaising and networking with a range oI stakeholders, e.g. customers, colleagues,
suppliers and partner organizations;
communicating with target audiences and managing customer relationships;
sourcing advertising opportunities and placing adverts in the press (local, regional,
national and specialist publications) or on the radio (depending on the organisation
and the campaign);
managing the production oI marketing materials, including leaIlets, posters, Ilyers,
newsletters and e-newsletters and DVDs;
writing and prooIreading copy;
liaising with designers and printers;
organising photo shoots;
arranging Ior the eIIective distribution oI marketing materials;
maintaining and updating customer databases;
organising and attending events such as conIerences, seminars, receptions and
exhibitions;
sourcing and securing sponsorship;
conducting market research such as customer questionnaires and Iocus groups;

Structured or large company experience will not work here.
Familiarity and skill with the tools oI the trade in marketing including PR, written
communication, website development, market research, product packaging, icrosoIt
soItware suite oI products, visal communication soItware products, and creative
services.
Experience managing external PR and communication consulting Iirms and
contractors.
Experience in the global marketplace is a plus.
Experience supervising and managing a proIessional staII oI seven.


Bachelors Degree in arketing or a related Iield required.
asters in Business or arketing preIerred.
