TASK 1 Create a sound clip

OVERVIEW The general purpose of this lesson is for students to learn how to create sound clips
and listen to them using Windows Media Player.

-To download sound clips from the Web and save them on the computer.

learning difficulties 1. The microphone
When students record a sound clip, they often hold
the microphone a long distance from their mouth.
In this way, the recording may contain annoying
sounds from the environment.
2. Stop & Pause a sound clip
Students may confuse the Stop and Pause buttons.
Explain their difference. Pressing the Stop button
stops the clip and if we press Play it will start from
the beginning. On the other hand, pressing the

3. Download sound clips.
Tell students that we can’t download any sound
clip we want from the Internet. Some of them are
protected by their owners. We can only download
those that give us permission.
Lesson description Introduction
- Introduce the purpose of the lesson to motivate
students’ interest in creating their own sound
clips. The aim of the lesson is to use the Sound
recorder, and the microphone, and play sound clips.

Encourage students to discuss among them and exchange ideas in order to answer
questions correctly.
2. Development of knowledge - Implementation
- Give the groups the names:
Musical instruments
Sounds of nature
Modes of transportation
Objects
Animals
-Students have to open Internet Explorer and download sound clips related to their
group’s name. For example, they can download the whistle of a train if they belong to
the “Modes of transport” team. Ask them to give some examples before they start
searching. But, before they do anything, ask them to check if the speakers are
connected to the computers and
the volume is on!
- On www.soundbible.com there are many sound
clips students can download. Ask them to listen
to them discuss amongst themselves what they are
going to download. Help them, if necessary, to
explain the steps if necessary.
- Then, hand out the “K.4.4.1_Worksheet_2.docx”.
Students must use the Sound recorder. Ask
them to check if the microphone is connected
to the computers. Explain how to use the Sound
recorder. They can use the Student’s book,
Module 4, Task 1 (Create a sound clip) as a guide.
-Then, hand out the “K.4.4.1_Worksheet_3.docx”.
