E. Abstraction (10 minutes)

Routine maintenance of tools and equipment is an important part of caregiving. Here

are some general steps you can take to maintain tools and equipment:

1. Clean equipment after each use: Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down equipment
after each use. This helps to remove any debris or residue that may have
accumulated during use.
2. Inspect equipment regularly: Regularly inspect equipment to ensure that it is in good
condition. Check for any signs of wear and tear, cracks, or other damage. If
any damage found, repair or replace the equipment as necessary.
3. Keep equipment properly stored: Store equipment in a dry, clean area that is free
from moisture and dust. This helps to prevent corrosion and damage.
4. Follow manufacturer's instructions: Follow the manufacturer's instructions for
cleaning and maintenance of the equipment. This will help to ensure that the
equipment lasts as long as possible.
5. Lubricate equipment as needed: Some equipment may require lubrication to operate
smoothly. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for lubricating the
equipment.
6. Keep tools sharp: Keep cutting tools sharp to ensure they are effective and efficient in
their use. Dull tools can be more dangerous to use and can cause more harm to
the patient.
7. Dispose of damaged or broken equipment: If equipment is damaged or broken,
dispose of it properly. Do not use or attempt to repair damaged equipment.

By following these general steps, you can help ensure that your tools and equipment are
properly maintained and are safe to use for your patients.

What is the importance carrying the different routine maintenance of selected tools,
equipment and paraphernalia in caregiving in real life situation.
The importance of carrying out routine maintenance of tools and equipment is essential
in caregiving for several reasons:

In TLE and Science , this is important because it:

1. Improves efficiency and effectiveness: Regular maintenance of tools and equipment
ensures that they are functioning optimally, reducing the likelihood of breakdowns
or malfunctions. This improves the efficiency and effectiveness of caregiving tasks,
allowing caregivers to provide better care to their patients.
2. Ensures safety: Faulty equipment and tools can pose significant risks to both
caregivers and patients. Regular maintenance helps to identify and fix any potential
safety hazards, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
3. Saves money: Regular maintenance can help to extend the lifespan of tools and
equipment, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This can save money in

the end, as replacing equipment can be costly.

4. Maintains hygiene: In the healthcare setting, cleanliness and hygiene are essential to
prevent the spread of infection. Regular maintenance of equipment ensures that
they are clean and free from contaminants, reducing the risk of cross-infection.
5. Compliance with regulations: Many healthcare facilities are required to adhere to
regulations and standards regarding equipment maintenance. Regular maintenance
ensures that facilities comply with these regulations, avoiding potential penalties or
legal issues.

Overall, routine maintenance of tools and equipment is crucial in caregiving, as it

ensures that equipment is functioning optimally, safe, hygienic, and compliant with
regulations.

In business (Entrepreneurship), this is important so that you will save money in

purchasing new tools, equipment’s, and paraphernalia.

In health (MAPEH), this necessary not to be infected with disease.
