    Calling of the Candidates

    A: Reverend Mosignor/Father, I now present to you the members of the


    Ministry of the Word who wish to renew their commitment in the service of
    proclaiming the word of God
    (The Animator will call the Candidates one by one.)
    Examination of the Candidates

    P: Dear Brothers and Sisters, as readers and bearers of God's word, will you
    assist in the mission of proclaiming God’s word, and so take on a special
    office within the Christian community?

    C: Yes Father, we accept this mission.

    P: As readers and bearers of God's word, are you willing to be given a


    responsibility in the service of the faith, which is rooted in the word of
    God.?

    C: Yes Father, we accept this responsibility.

    P: As readers and bearers of God's word, are you willing to proclaim the word
    in the liturgical assembly, instruct children and adults in the faith and
    prepare them to receive the sacraments worthily and bring the message of
    salvation to those who have not yet received it.?

    C: Yes Father, we are ready.

    Blessing of the Bible

    P: Let us pray:
    Saving God, you have revealed your life and your love through the lives of our
    ancestors in the faith. From Abraham and Sarah, Moses and David, to Mary and
    Joseph, to Peter and Paul, you have spoken your word and called your people to
    fuller life. We honor your presence in these Scriptures, and we pray that the words

    of this sacred book may become more deeply the living word of God, forming our
    thoughts, desires, and actions. We ask your blessings on these Holy Bibles + in the
    name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

    A: Amen.

    Invitation to Prayer

    P: Brothers and sisters,


    let us ask God our Father
    to bless these servants
    who have been chosen for the ministry of reader.
    Let us pray that they may be faithful
    to the work entrusted to them,
    proclaim Christ to the world,
    and so give glory to our Father in heaven.

    Prayer of Blessing

    P: Lord God,
    source of all goodness and light,
    you sent your only Son, the Word of life,
    to reveal to mankind the mystery of your love.

    Bless + our brothers and sisters


    who have been chosen for the ministry of the Word.
    Grant that as they meditate constantly on your word
    they may grow in its wisdom
    and faithfully proclaim it to your people.

    We ask this through Christ our Lord.


    R. Amen.

    (The Priest Sprinkles Holy Water to the Readers)

    Commissioning Rites

    The Priest presents the bible to each candidate saying:


    P: Take this book of holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the word of
    God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.

    The Candidate shall accept the bible and say:


    C: Amen

    P: Dear people of God, we have witnessed the love of these people for the Lord
    and for His house. May they really be shining examples to all their friends and
    family. Let us join them in their joy and express our approval. Let us clap our
    hands.

    (The candidates face and take a profound bow to the faithful. Then proceed to
    their pews.)
