LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING: (Is 42:1-3)

A Reading from the book of the Prophet Isaiah

Thus says the Lord:

Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I
am pleased, Upon whom I have put my Spirit; he shall bring forth
justice to the nations, Not crying out, not shouting, not making his
voice heard in the street. A bruised reed he shall not break, and a
smoldering wick he shall not quench.

The word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.

SECOND READING: (Gal. 5:16-17, 22-25)

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians

Brothers and Sisters:

Live by the Spirit, and you will certainly not gratify the desire of
the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit
are against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you
may not do what you want.
In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also
follow the Spirit.

The word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: ( to be sung )

Response : Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the
earth.

COMMENTATOR : Please rise to honor the Holy Gospel.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION ( to be sung )

CELEBRANT : The Lord be with you.

All : And with your spirit.

CELEBRANT : A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

St. Matthew

All : Glory to you, O Lord.

CELEBRANT :
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called
children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of
righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because
of me.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in
heaven. ”
