LET’S REFLECT
Based on the lesson symbolic interaction theory and the movie, The Little Prince, what
does this quote mean: “Words are a source of misunderstanding”. Any personal message?
Write it down.
--- By jumbling the word "WORDS," we can make the word SWORD. Our words have the
ability to both motivate and hurt. As a result, I wholeheartedly agree that words are a source of
misunderstanding. Because each person has a unique perception or mode of receiving or
encoding a message, we must deliver our words carefully and precisely, using appropriate tone
and hand gestures. We must also respect what others interpret and believe because their
perspective differs from ours. That is why we must always think before speaking.
--- According to conflict theory, the purpose of education is to maintain social inequality
and the power of those who dominate society. Private schools have more money, can afford
more technology, and can pay higher salaries to their employees, so students who attend these
schools have a significant advantage in getting into the best colleges and being tracked into
higher-paying professions. While students in public schools do not have these advantages, they
are less likely to attend college and are more likely to be steered toward vocational and technical
training.
--- The three premises of symbolic interactionism were introduced by American
psychologist Herbert Blumer: Humans interact with objects, institutions, and other individuals
based on ascribed meanings is the overall educational policies and practices toward minorities
(for example, school segregation, unequal school funding, and staffing of minority schools, etc.).
----A school represents a microcosm of society. The functionalist perspective on schools
explores the school's role in contributing to society. One of the primary functions of schools is to
teach students skills and prepare them to be employable or capable of generating employment.
Schools teach skills such as language, numeracy, and vocational and technical skills to this end.
Thus, the school is an institution that helps a society function by producing individuals capable

of sustaining the system of economic relations that is essential to any society's survival. In
addition, a child learns skills like cooperation, coexistence, and conflict resolution in the
classroom. Children in ethnically, racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse societies learn to
accept and welcome differences, thereby contributing to a more accommodating society.
Children also learn how to obey rules and the consequences of breaking them, which prepares
them to become law-abiding adults later in life. Furthermore, every society has a set of values
that its education system is designed to instill in its students.
