DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF COCONUT

MILK EXTRACTOR

SYNOPSIS

This project is specially designed for extracting coconut milk from

the coconut. The machine is designed in a very simple way such that it

can be used by everyone, as the mechanism is very simple. The major

components used are lead screw, crushing device and handle.

Milk extractor is a device used to extract milk from the coconut.

Coconut cream is the processed milk extracted from fresh matured

coconut. In southern China and Taiwan, sweetened coconut milk is

served on its own as a drink during spring and summer. It is made by

adding sugar and evaporated or fresh milk during the process of preparing

the coconut milk. Another Chinese drink is coconut milk made from

water that is then mixed with fresh or evaporated milk in a 1:1 ratio and a

spoon of condensed milk or sugar for each cup. They are served chilled.

It is also fine to drink raw by itself, or reduced with plain water.

Coconut products are some of the major products that are exported

by the Philippines. One of these products is coconut milk which is

extracted from mature coconut meat. But then coconut milk extraction is

a difficult process and can prove to be untidy at times. Efforts are in the

works to improve the process of coconut milk extraction. Many attempts


have been done to increase the efficiency of the early prototypes and until

now, no high efficiency models have been made regarding the design of

machines for extracting coconut milk.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The machine is constructed with a lead screw attached with a

handle to rotate. At the end of the lead screw a crushing device is

connected for crushing of coconut. The lead screw moves along the

locknut which is fixed on the top of the assembly. Lead screw is a device

used for converting the rotary motion to linear motion. A crushing area is

provided for placing the coconuts, which are to be crushed. After placing
the components in the crushing area, using the handle attached with the

lead screw, the crushing device can be moved towards the coconut. As

the lead screw is rotated further the coconut will be crushed. By giving

additional force to this the coconut will be completely crushed and the

coconut’s milk is extracted. The extracted milk will flow through the path

provided and will be collected. Thus using this machine, the coconut’s

milk will be extracted.

 Improves productivity by extracting the milk completely

 Low maintenance is required as simple mechanism is used

APPLICATIONS

It can be used in places like hotels, bakeries and wherever coconut

milk is extracted.
