Lesson Plan in Science

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
a. Identify the different properties of light
b. Investigate the properties of light through different experiments
c. Appreciate the significance of light to our daily living
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Investigating the Properties of Light.
Reference: Science Learner’s Material G4 p. 207-215
Materials:
 Activity 1. How does light travels? Flashlight, 3 pieces cardboard with holes,
 Activity 2. What happens to light as it strikes objects? Laser pointer, Book, Mirror, Glass slab,
Bond paper, Pencil
 Activity 3. How does light help us see things? Box with two holes, Flashlight, pencil, and paper
III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. ELICIT

Prayer
Before we start, let us all stand-up and (One pupil will lead he prayer)
pray.

Greetings Good morning, ma’am! Good morning

Good morning class! classmates!
Thankyou ma’am.
You may now take your seats.

Attendance None ma’am.

Who is absent today?
Very good!

B. ENGAGEMENT Earth
What do you call with this picture class?
Round, beautiful, a planet
Can you define the earth?

Very Good!
Singing of the song “What a wonderful world”
It is a wonderful world to all humans!
Stand and sing with me as you watch the
beauty of the world.
Yes sir!
The song is very meaningful. Isn’t it?

Through the light, we see the beauty of our

world, the color of the rainbow, trees and
roses.

We have a new lesson class for today and I

want you to discover it by solving the word
puzzle.
The learners will solve the word puzzle.
(Group the pupils into 4 and they will name
their group.)
Properties of light!
Today, We are going to discuss the? Yes sir!
Are you ready to participate?

C. EXPLORATION

Light is a form of energy that moves in

straight lines. It also reflects off things, and
that reflected light enters our eyes, allowing
us to see.
No sir.
Do you know how light travels class?
Yes sir!
Do you want to know it?

Process the activity.

(Use flashlight, and on it.)

Activity 1: How does light travels. The light travels in a straight line.
So based on our experiment, how light
travels?

Very good! That is the number one

properties of light.
The learners will answer the illustration.
Since light travels in a straight line, what
will happen if it strikes an object?
Yes sir!
Do you want to know class?

Okay! Let’s do the next property of light. Activity 2: What happens to light as it strikes an
object?

Light bounces as it hits an opaque material and

Process the activity and present the does not pass through it. This bouncing of light
explanation. is called reflection.

We see objects because of reflected light coming

from the object being seen by the observer.

Light bends as it hits transparent material as it

passes through it. This bending of light is called
refraction.

Refraction only happens when light moves from

one transparent material to another transparent
material such as air to glass and in glass to water.

There is no refraction when light strikes the

transparent material at 90 degrees. When light
passes through droplets of rain it gets refracted.

So the second properties of light is

reflection which is the bouncing of light
while the third property is the refraction
which is the bending of light.

Now You have learned the three properties

of light and now it’s the time to assess your
learnings.
Activity 3: How does light help us see things?
Process the activity. (Use PowerPoint presentation for the
