ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 3
Safety
Symbols
The symbols used in the HEUFT documentation simplify handling and point out dangers and special features.
Danger
Warning of general dangers.
Stop
Warning of actions which can cause injuries or damage to the machine.
Safety information
Maintenance work is only permitted when production is not in progress and when the
main switch of the standard device and the conveyors are switched off.
Protection devices
The protection devices protect operators against accidents and injuries and must not be removed or rendered
ineffective.
Encoder hood
The housing of the encoder prevents inadvertent access to moving parts and thus
protects against injuries by crushing.

4 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Checking after completed assembly
When assembling the HEUFT encoder the following conditions must be fulfilled in order that it can be
assembled with other parts properly and without any limitation of the safety and the health of persons to a
completed machine:
• The HEUFT encoder may be put into operation as a partly completed machine only if it has been
determined that the machine into which the encoder has been assembled corresponds to the
Machinery Directive.
• The HEUFT encoder has been correctly connected to the terminals (24 V DC (PELV)) provided on the
standard device (refer to the wiring diagram of the standard device).
• Assembly of the encoder support and of the protective hood has been carried out in such a way that no
interventions on moving parts of the encoder (= encoder coupling) are possible.
• The cables have been laid in such a way that there is no risk of stumbling or falling.
• The bolts for fastening to the conveyor side frame are not too long, i.e. the return conveyor cannot hit
against the bolts.

EC declaration of incorporation (template)
The template for the EC declaration of incorporation is in the folder of the complete documentation in which
these assembly instructions can also be found.
The encoder has been designed exclusively for industrial and commercial purposes.
The encoder must not be used for other purposes than those for which it has been designed.

Operating principle
Per rotation of the encoder shaft the encoder transmits a particular number of pulses to the standard device.
HBDR119TM ENG MA Taktgeber
The encoder shaft is connected to the drive shaft of the conveyor chain. Each encoder pulse thus
corresponds to a distance the conveyor has moved. Therefore it is possible for the standard device to
determine the container movement on the conveyor.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 7
Technical specifications
Encoder output: Open collector or HEUFT ISI
Pulses per revolution: 800/5,000*
Required space: approximately 100 mm x 210 mm (width x depth)
Maximum encoder frequency: 10 kHz
Weight: 3.2 kg
* The number of pulses depends on the application.
Electrical system
The electric power supply is carried out via the HEUFT standard device.
Degree of protection
The encoder belongs to degree of protection IP54 according to the specification DIN EN 60529 / EN 60529 /
IEC 60529.
Ambient conditions
The encoder has been designed for use in closed rooms under the following conditions:
The limit values are in accordance with the details as per DIN EN 60204-1 / EN 60204-1 / IEC 60204-1.
Sudden fluctuations in temperature should be avoided because they could result in condensation forming.
Strong sunlight should be avoided because it can heat up the casings.
Noise emission
The A-weighted emission sound level of the encoder is lower than 70 dB(A).
Transport and store the encoder only in its original packaging. The packaging may only be opened by people
authorised by the HEUFT SYSTEMTECHNIK company. The entire packaging material is reusable and the
customer should arrange for it to be returned to the material flow or collected for recycling.

8 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Assembly
The encoder support makes it possible to assemble the encoder to a HEUFT conveyor system or to a
conveyor system available on site.
The assembly instructions describe the attachment of the encoder to a HEUFT conveyor system. Information
is given then to other assembly options. This information should help when assembling the encoder to a
conveyor system available on site.
Before carrying out any assembly work stop the conveyor and secure it to prevent it
being inadvertently switched on again!
Working at, above and below the conveyor belts is only permitted when the conveyor
system (and thus the conveyor belts) has been switched off and secured against
being inadvertently switched on again!
When the drive shafts of encoder and conveyor are not correctly aligned, the
unbalanced mass at the encoder shaft will cause the destruction of the encoder.
During assembly it must be taken into consideration that the encoder is attached to the
drive shaft of the conveyor passing at the standard device and at the rejector.

Mounting the encoder
In the case of a HEUFT conveyor system the encoder can be assembled directly as
tapped holes already exist. In the case of a conveyor system on site it may be
necessary that the user makes appropriate tapped holes or other holes himself if they
do not yet exist in the conveyor system.

Assembly to conveyors available on site
There are different variants to assemble the encoder holder. During assembly it is thus possible to deal with
the mechanical conditions of a conveyor system available on site individually.
In the case of a HEUFT conveyor system the encoder can be assembled directly as
tapped holes already exist. In the case of a conveyor system on site it may be
necessary that the user makes appropriate tapped holes or other holes himself if they
do not yet exist in the conveyor system.
Electrical installation
Connect the encoder to the terminals (24 V DC (PELV)) provided on the standard device (refer to the wiring

Commissioning
HBDR119TM ENG MA Taktgeber
Commissioning of the machine is carried out by HEUFT service personnel or by qualified personnel who have
been trained by the HEUFT company.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 15
Maintenance
Maintenance and repair work is only permitted when production has stopped.
Before carrying out any maintenance and repair work make sure that
- the conveyor has been cleared
- the conveyor has been switched off and secured to prevent it being inadvertently
switched on again
- the standard device has been switched off and secured to prevent it being
inadvertently switched on again
no protection devices have been deactivated.
"General notes on cleaning stainless steel" are available in the "Cleaning and care"
chapter of the machines' operator's manuals or in the operating instructions of the
standard devices.
Maintenance instructions
Every month
1. Clear and stop the conveyor system.
2. Turn the main switch of the conveyor system to "O" OFF. Secure it to prevent it being inadvertently
switched on again!
3. Clean the protective hood with a damp cloth.
Shutdown
Shutdown is carried out by HEUFT service personnel or by qualified personnel who have been trained by the
HEUFT company.
Waste disposal
Electronic modules must be separated from mechanical modules in order to ensure their proper disposal.
Plastic and metal parts are collected for recycling.
Cables must be disposed of separately.
Local applicable regulations for waste disposal must be observed.
