Activity 4: “I Am What I Am!”

Directions: Information regarding the topic is provided below. Your task is
to read the passages carefully and understand the important thoughts to
have it as a springboard in this skill you are learning.
Service Maintenance Program
In providing quality service especially to services that involve equipment,
tools and products. Proper maintenance of it is a must, as a protective measure to
prevent any unprecedented infectious diseases.

Storing and Sanitation Techniques

Take a look at the things around you. Even though these things may look
clean in your eyes but what you do not know is that there is still presence of
contaminants. Contaminant is any substance that causes contamination. Salon
professional must always ensure safety and sanitation in the salon to prevent and
control infections and contagious diseases although it is very impossible to keep
the salon free from all contamination.

A program to which the clients are advise to render time in the monitoring of
their welfare after the deed is done. On the other hand, it is also a maintenance of
equipment, tools and products to provide adequate and satisfying services to the
clients.
There are three levels of decontamination. These are the following:

Sanitize
It means that as a service provider, keeping the equipment, tools and
products clean and hygienic is a must. This decides a factor in the enthusiasm of
clients in the Salon.

Sanitization
A state of reduction of contamination to an acceptable safety level. This is a
process without the need to undergo sterilization. It signifies that with sanitization,
the clients are assured that everything the provider uses is safe and not hazardous
to health at all.

Sterilize
A process of freeing an object from bacteria or microorganisms. Thus,
bacteria and microorganism are not necessarily good in Salons where it involves a
deep application of equipment, tools and products to the skin and some parts of
the body.
Sterilization
Eliminating completely the microorganisms or any bacterial form in an
object. It can either be through chemical or physical means. This is done once in a
week in a salon so as to eliminate possible infections to the clients.

Disinfection
A procedure of treatment that eliminates many or all pathogenic
microorganisms with the exception of bacterial spores. It is very applicable in salon
since sterilization is not practical and sanitation alone is nowhere near enough.
Further, in disinfection, disinfectant and antiseptic are the commonly used.
Disinfectant is a chemical which destroys bacteria but not applicable to skin.
While, antiseptic is an agent that reduces the multiplication ability of bacteria,
however, it can be used to skin since it is milder compared to disinfectant.
