DISCUSSION
In understanding a short story, we have elements that will guide us
to make it comprehensive and precise. We will watch a video, and
you may jot down notes about the facts presented in the video. And
after watching, you will describe and explain the five essential
elements of a short story. Yes ma’am!
Are you now ready?
Since the video presentation has helped you to know the different
elements of a short story, you will be the one to define each
component.
Elements of a Short Story: The setting of a short story is the time and
1. Setting place in which it happens. Authors often use
descriptions of landscape, scenery, buildings,
seasons or weather to provide a strong sense
of setting.
4. Plot
- Expositiom Plot is known as the foundation of a novel or
- Rising Action story, around which the characters and
- Climax settings are built. It is meant to organize
- Falling Action information and events in a logical manner.
- Resolution or Denouement When writing the plot of a piece of literature,
the author has to be careful that it does not
dominate the other parts of the story.
4. APPLICATION
That’s cool.
For you to apply what you have learned, let’s have an activity
regarding the story “The Necklace.” To understand the story better,
we will dissect the story employing the elements we learned a while
ago. I have here a box that contains letters from famous
personalities. Your group will decide which color will you pick and
let us uncover the task. Understood?
I’ll give you 15 minutes to prepare and limit your presentation
within two minutes timeframe.
Okay, All leaders pick your color now. The students will go to their respective
- BLUE (The storyteller) (Lola Basyang) groups and will read the letter.
- Green (The artist group) (Fernando Amorsolo) The students will do their task.
- Red (The Dramatists) (Kathryn Bernardo)
- YELLOW (The Singers group) (Sarah G.)
- ORANGE (/Pantomime) (Derek Ramsey)
(After 15 minutes)
Okay, class. Are you ready to present your work? Yes, Ma’am!
Who wants to volunteer? Yes ____________________________. The first group will present their output.
Very good. Let us give them the “Whistle Bomb” clap.
