Corrections to ES-XW7T-1A278-AC

Updated 3/12/04

The following are corrections to errors identified in the specification. Note that this
information is updated regularly as needed therefore the user is encouraged to check this file on
a regular basis for additional corrections. Any errors or questions concerning the specification
should be directed to spec_questions@fordemc.com.
Corrections are shown in red.

Ø Page 34, Table 11-1: Error in Equation for magnetic field limits from 340 – 10,000 Hz.
The corrected equation is:

Requirement Functional Performance Status

Frequency
Level (dBpT RMS) Class A Class B Class C
(Hz)

50 – 340 L = 163 – 39.64*log(f /50) (1) I I I

340 – 10,000 L = 130 + 20.43*log(f /340) (1) I I I

600 – 10,000 122 (2) I - -

Ø Page 46, Figure 14-4: Transient voltage level UP (60 volts) is incorrect. The correct value
for UP is 73.5 volts.

Test pulse G simulates the transient

produced due to sudden
disconnection of the electrical load
from the alternator. The pulse shall
t
r be applied to all power supply and
control circuits with switched or direct
U connection to battery. The test pulse
S
is equivalent to Test Pulse 5
90 % delineated in ISO 7637-2.

Ø Page 86, Figure G-2: Reference 7 in the reference key should state that the switch is closed
for Pulses A1 and B1. Corrected reference key is shown below:
Key (Figures G-1, G-2)
1 Vehicle Battery (12 VDC) 5 Resistor: 6 ohms +/- 5 %
2 5 uH Inductor (50 amp)*
6 Resistor: 100 ohms +/- 5%
(Osborn Transformer Part Number 8745)
3 Relay Sub-circuit (see Figure G3 for 7 Switch: SPST (1 amp). Switch
detail) closed for Pulses A1 and B1.
4. Inductor: 100 mH @ 1amp*
(Osborn Transformer Part Number
32416)
* Critical Component, no substitutions permitted without written
authorization from the FMC EMC department.

Ø Page 87, Figure G-3: The frequency of the function generator stated in the reference key
should be 0.2 Hz, not (0.1 – 20Hz). The timing diagram, however, is correct.
Key:
1 Vehicle Battery Connection
3a Function Generator (0.2 Hz square wave)
3b Resistor: 51 ohms .25 watt
3c 12 volt AC Relay: Potter & Brumfield KUP-14A15-12 (1)
3e NPN Transistor: TIP 41
3e Zener Diode: 39V, 5W (1N5366A)
3f Test Switch: SPST Switch
1 Critical Component: No substitutions permitted without
written authorization from the FMC EMC department. See
Annex H. Relay should be replace after 100 hours of usage

Ø Page 87, Figure G-4: The relay circuit illustrated in Figure G-4 will not function properly
for products with high capacitance circuits. This issue may be corrected by using the
circuit shown below. The same Potter & Brumfield is used.

Ø Page 82, Test Pulse B2: Typo in paragraph description of Test Pulse B2. Corrected
paragraph:

Test Pulse B2
Test pulse B1 simulates the voltage transient produced due to low-side switch-off of a
low current (< 0.4 ampere) inductive load. Only control circuits are exposed to this test
pulse. Pulse B2, has similar characteristics as Pulse A2 except with opposite polarity.
Ø Page 25, paragraph 9.3: Test procedure steps are mistyped. Steps e) and f) should be
labeled as steps g) and h).
