I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. distinguish between fact and opinion;
b. manifest cooperation in identifying facts and opinions through group activity; and
c. write sentences expressing facts and opinions.

A. Preliminary Activities

The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. What are the different text types?
b. Give me an example of a procedural text-type?
6. Motivation: Post-it-Parade
The teacher will group the class into two. They will be given a word and a manila
paper. They will write something about that word and post it in the manila paper.
GROUP 1. FACT
GROUP 2: OPINION
a. What are your strategies in writing these words?
b. In one sentence summarize all the words and phrases in the manila paper.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
The class will be divided in three groups. Each group must be given two pictures
and let them write two sentences about what they have observed in the pictures.
They will be given 2 minutes to complete their task.

2. Analysis/Discussion
The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. How do you come up with these sentences?
b. What are your strategies in this activity?
c. Is this sentence a fact or opinion?
3. Abstraction/Generalization
a. How do we distinguish fact from opinion?
b. Why is it important for us to know whether an information is fact or opinion?
4. Application
The teacher will divide the class into 2 groups. Each group must complete their
assigned task for 5 minutes.
IV. Evaluation
The sentences that follow are taken from the paragraph in the box. Inn the space before
each number, write FACT if the sentences states a fact. Write OPINION if it expresses a
feeling or belief.
I like to take a walk everyday because it makes me feel
more energetic. A vigorous walk makes my heart beats
faster. A doctor told me that during exercise, the heart
pumps more oxygen to the body.
V. Assignment
Write a sentence stating a FACT or OPINION. Read your sentences to the class. Ask your
classmates to identify whether it is a fact or an opinion.
