Summary of Position:
The Meat & Seafood Manager has the responsibility to meet monthly, quarterly, or annual sales and
profitability goals. The Meat & Seafood Manager provides strong day to day leadership of staffing to
achieve sales initiatives, merchandising goals, expense control, and overall financial and operational
performance of the their department. Provide a safe and compelling shopping experience and working
environment for our customers and associates. Drives and models the company's culture of integrity
and transparency within the store and the community. Proactively take steps to ensure all associates,
including themselves deliver a "wow" shopping experience for the customer.
THE JOB
The Meat and Seafood Department Manager exhibits excellent service for customers and staff
and ensures that all department staff is customer focused and provides excellent service
Knows store layout and is aware of products in other departments
The major challenges to this position are to remain abreast of changing owner/customer needs,
new products, effective selling techniques, providing the atmosphere in which the product is
presented and to supply high quality product that are well merchandised at all times
Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by department staff, in accordance with established
procedures.
Review invoices for accuracy, break into inventory categories.
Establish standards for meat cutting to meet quality, pricing, margin control, and customer
service goals.
Establish and oversee adherence to health and safety standards and practices for department
meat cutting and handling.
Plan attractive meat and seafood displays, using color and texture to enhance.
See that displays are replenished, rotated, checked for quality.
Assist customers with product questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for
purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner.
Provide product information for newsletter, promotions, and customer inquiries.
Ensure accurate product labeling and clear, attractive signs.
Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned or low-quality product. Ensure
department waste items are properly disposed of.
Maintain meat displays, freezer and prep & storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting
health department standards.
Maintain department equipment in working order. Advise General Manager of equipment repair
or replacement needs.
Ensure on-the-job training, conduct performance evaluations and take disciplinary action as
needed following established policies.
Ensure department staff are informed of store wide meetings and policy changes.
Essential Functions
The potential for prolonged standing, walking, squatting and/or bending and ability to lift heavy
boxes up to 75 lbs.
Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff, working a flexible schedule
to include a variety of shifts -- afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays.
