Welcome to the HELE 4 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on
Importance of
Entrepreneurship
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by the
teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12
Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in
schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration
their needs and circumstances.

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you will
find different activities where you can learn and show your understanding of the basic
concepts and principles of Importance of Entrepreneurship. The scope of this module
permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used
recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow
the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

engaged into different types of business. It can vary from micro, small and medium
enterprise. An entrepreneur can be regarded as person who has the initiative, skill and
motivation to set up a business or enterprise of his own.
An individual may also engaged into restaurant business or can be a
manufacturer of school bags or any items that produces quality products at affordable
prices.

What is It
A. Entrepreneurs
The word entrepreneur originates from the french word, entreprendre, which
means “to undertake”
An Entrepreneur is the most important person in the business.
B. Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is the process creating something new with venture along with
any of its risks in order to make a profit. The most obvious example is the
starting of new business.
TYPES OF SMALL BUSINESS
1. Micro-business- The owner is the one manages the business and employs one or
two individuals to help him/her. Examples are: retail store, fruit vendor,fish vendor etc.
2. Small Business - owned and managed by an individual or a group with only enough
resources to continue its operations. Examples are: Bakeshop, mini grocery store etc.
3. Medium Business - owned and operated by single person, two business partners or
a corporation. Examples are: Supermarket, department store, Factory etc.
CONTRIBUTION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP TO THE ECONOMY
Entrepreneurship contributions to socio-economic aspects are as follow
1. Promotes self-help and employment
2. When there are lot of businesses around us it gives us major benefits and help
improve the quality of life.
3. Entrepreneurship creates new product and services for the betterment of the society
in general. It makes life easier and comfortable.
4. Entrepreneurship generates wealth for the nation and for individuals as well.
5. An entrepreneur that hires people pays income taxes and also pays duties and
licenses in operating its business to government agency.
6. Entrepreneurs are considered inventors.
7. An entrepreneur makes use of and mobilizes these resources by converting it into
finished products . It helps a local industry that produces these raw materials.
Characteristics of an Entrepreneur
Personal Entrepreneurial Characteristics (PEC) is a combination of different
characteristics. Entrepreneurs are individual who are highly motivated and possess the
following qualities and traits which are clustered into three groups.
ACHIEVEMENT CLUSTERS
Opportunity Seeking - Entrepreneur possess a characteristic discovering new or
different ideas that can be saleable in the market.
Persistent - Entrepreneurs fo not give up easily. They learn more and more from
past mistake and continue to venture in a different line of business.
Committed to the work contract - Entrepreneurs value commitment to work. They
always meet customers’ demand as promised.
Risk-taker - Entrepreneurs calculate and study possible business ventures.
Demands for quality and efficiency - Entrepreneur find ways to do things better,
faster, cheaper in the meeting standard of excellence from themselves and their
workers.
