UNDEFEATED CHAMPS
After two successive years of Little Eight Conference runners-up, and identical 7-1 records, the 1965 Indians
took "all the marbles" this past season as they compiled a perfect 9-0 season mark and captured the Little Eight
Conference Football Championship.
Tiskilwa exhibited a tough defense throughout the season as their opponents crossed their goal line only 9
times and nobody scored more than 13 points in any one game. The defense was anchored by Senior Tackle Steve
Cook, who led the team in tackles, and also by Senior Guard Cliff Vaughn. Both were named to the All-Confer-
ence first team for their efforts.
The Indians offense was led by Senior Halfback Gary Brokaw and Senior Fullback Joe Hannon. Brokaw scored
76 points in 9 games and wound up third in the conference in scoring. He was also a first team All-Conference
choice as well as a member of the Little All-State team. Hannon was the workhorse of the backfield and was
named to the second team All-Conference.
All in all, it was a great team effort and whatsmore, there are six starters back next year.

INDIANS FINISH 25-3

Capturing three tournament championships and a second place finish within the ranks of the Little Eight Con-
ference, the 1965-66 edition of Tiskilwa Indians basketball squad completed a highly successful season. The
team compiled a 25-3 season record, the best in the county and one of the best marks in the state.
The three tournament victories came in the Bradford Round Robin, which Tiskilwa has now won four years in
a row, the Little Eight Tournament, for the second consecutive year, and the championship of the DePue District,
the first such title for a Tiskilwa team in 24 years. The Indians also posted a 7-1 record in the conference, good
for second place, losing only to Neponset.
The only other defeats came at Walnut by one point and to LaSalle- Peru in the semi-finals of the Regional
Tournament.
The Indians were led by co-captains and first team All-Conference picks, 6'6" Senior Center Steve Borge
and 6'2" Senior Forward Joe Hannon. Borge led the team in scoring, with an 18.4 average, and in rebounding,
while Hannon was second in rebounds and third in scoring. Also, making the All-Conference second team, were
guards Gary Brokaw, a senior, and Bill Philhower, a junior. Brokaw led the team in assists, while Philhower was
second in scoring . Senior Gary Fosdick, the fifth starter, was third in rebounds and was also a standout defensive
player.
In addition to fine teamwork, a tight defense was the main key to the Indians success, as, on the average,
opponents were limited to less than 50 points a game.

SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Although the Frosh. -Soph. season was not the best this year, the boys accomplished a great deal. They
achieved the ability to work together and come back from all the defeats to try all the harder for the next game.
They also, matured a great deal which is very essential for good basketball.

lead and bring the coveted All-Sports Trophy back to Tiskilwa.
The Indians scored two seconds and two thirds in four conference meets for 26 points and scored another 20
points in the nine-team conference meet at LaMoille. These points together with the football and basketball
total, gave the Indians an eight point victory over runner-up Annawan. Along with the All-Sports Trophy the
Indians also received the runner-up trophy at their own invitational.
Led by Gary Brokaw and Steve Cook, the Indians were consistant scorers in the low hurdles, high jump,
discus, and shot. Other letter winners were, Ted Downey, Jerry Gutshall, Art Gutshall, Bill Philhower, Wayne

CLASS HISTORY

In the fall of 1962 we began our high school careers. The officers elected were: President, Janet Ander-
son; Vice-President, Kent McQueen; Secretary, Kathy Miller; and Treasurer, Pat Sendelbach. Although we had
few activities, we were kept very busy.

As sophomores the following year, our officers were: President, Steve Borge; Vice-President, Gary Brokaw;
Secretary, Mickey Heller; and Treasurer, Art Gutshall. Our many activities included our clean-up day, cake
walk, and our Homecoming float which received a rating of honorable mention.

During our junior year, our officers were: President, Art Gutshall; Vice-President, Kathy Miller; Secretary,
Mickey Heller; and Treasurer, Gary Brokaw. This year our Homecoming float made 3rd place. Our class play,
"They Gave Him a Coed", was directed by Mrs. Janicki and Miss Ewalt. "Sayonara" was the setting for the
Junior and Senior Prom, as we honored the departing seniors.

Our senior officers were: President, Kathy Miller; Vice-President, Steve Borge; Secretary, Steve Cook;
and Treasurer, Jim House. Our class finally made 2nd place on our Homecoming float. Our class play, "Lock,
Stock, and lipstick," was a great success. We also had a successful clean.:up day and chili supper. The juniors
delighted us with a beautiful Prom.

The final touches on our high school careers will be Class Night, Baccalaureate, Commencement, and, of
course, our class trip to the Ozarks.
