    Look at the cartoons and images below and answer:

    • What problems and situations do they refer to?


    • How funny do you find them?
    • Have you ever been involved in any of these situations? How did you manage to overcome that
    difficulty?
    • In your opinion, which are the main challenges students in higher education face nowadays?

    One of the most important skills in higher education is time-management. Check this webpage and choose
    one of piece of advice. Take down notes and reflect upon them. Get ready to share the information in your
    group.

    Task 3 Reading efficiently

    3.1 A tutorial group has been asked to provide ideas for a webpage with the title How to read efficiently in
    higher education, aimed at students about to begin a university course. Evaluate their ideas (1-12). Cross
    out three which you think are not good pieces of advice. This exercise will be corrected in our online lesson.

    3.2 Match the suggestions (a-f) on putting advice into practice to the nine pieces of good advice in 1.1.
    Work individually. This activity will be discussed in our online session.

    Task 4

    Practice in reading efficiently4.1 You are going to read a paper. Can you work out the general content
    from the title?

    4.2 Before you read the literature review from the paper, make sure you understand the following words
    and phrases:

    4.3 How will you approach the text when you read it for the first time? (Think about the advice given in
    3.2). This will be discussed in our online lesson.

    4.4 Now read the text.

    4. 5 Read the literature review in detail and decide which summary (a-f) best identifies the main theme of
    each paragraph (1-5). This exercise will be revised in our online session.
