Time To Teach Information
̈Time to Teach ̈ is a program created by the Ministry of Education of Ecuador, and administered
by t h e EDIFICAR Foundation. We invite you to enjoy this wonderful life experience while
teaching English to children and adolescents from underserved sectors of our country.
The program consists of teaching English to students from public schools in the country.
• May 2017 to the end of February 2018. Appointments we be located primarily in the Coastal
Region of Ecuador. (Teachers accepted into the program can arrive during April 2017)
• May 2017 to September 2017. (5 months) (Teachers accepted into the program can arrive during
April 2017)
• October 2017 to the e n d of February 2018 (5 months) (Teachers accepted into the program can

arrive as late as September 30 2017)
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
ü Each volunteer teacher will w o r k up to 40 labor hours per week. (Monday to Friday)
ü The work week will consist of 30 academic hours (45 min. class), plus 10 hours of lesson
planning and additional activities at the school. (Meetings with parents, teachers,
workshops, cultural activities and other related to the role).
ü Class size is generally up to 40 students. The students’ age can vary between 5 – 18 years
old.
ü Volunteer teachers are required to attend events and trainings related to the program,
coordinated by the Edificar Foundation / Ministry of Education.
ü The volunteer must behave in accordance with the Volunteer Handbook, as ambassadors
of his/her own country and the Foundation in the different educational institutions.
ü LONG TERM POSITION: Airline tickets (round trip) from the volunteer's current place
of residence to Ecuador.
ü SHORT TERM POSITION: Airline ticket (one-way) for the return from Ecuador to the
corresponding country. (The flight from the volunteer’s current place of residence to
Ecuador will be covered by the volunteer).
ü Private, national, pre-paid medical insurance for volunteer teachers during their stay in the
program. (If the volunteers have other medical insurance, they will still be covered by
the one offered by the program).
ü Accommodations and 2 meals provided by the host family. Host families have child(ren)
attending the school where the volunteer teacher will be working.
§ Meals: host
families provide 2 meals (breakfast and dinner). The volunteer is responsible for
covering cost of lunch.
ü Monthly living allowance for personal expenses. A total of $386 per month (Minus 8%
taxes).
ü Induction and training regarding the Ecuadorian public education system and the English
teaching objectives developed by the Ministry of Education.
ü Information on tourist cultural attractions and tours which volunteer teachers can use to
plan their travels in Ecuador.
ü At the end of the program participants will receive a diploma signed by the Ministry of
Education and EDIFICAR Foundation in recognition of their contribution as a volunteer
teacher in the ̈Time to Teach ̈ Program.
• Native English speaker or candidates with at least a C1 English level according to the Common
European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
• Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in any academic specialty, or university students attending
the last year/s of their education, or holders of an internationally recognized certification
for English teaching.
• REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
• Updated CV.
• Scanned copy of the bachelor's degree, or transcripts
from the university (applies only to
students), and/or
certificates of English teaching.
• Personal letter explaining why the volunteer would
like to participate in the program (Max.
500 words).
• A legitimate and valid criminal background check document issued by a competent authority in
the
country of origin/residence.
