Lack of awareness and understanding of the concept of sustainable tourism;
Majority of local population does not heard and understand this concept of the sustainable
tourism. Few local might intend to established eco-resorts but they did not implement the
principle of the eco-tourism in their projects.
Lack of tourism know-how and weak promotional activity;
3. Provide policy recommendations and actions to tackle the 4 problems identified (in qstn 2).
• Provide and state certain appropriate plan of actions in mitigating the critical issues
concerning the rollout of sustainable tourism in our country.
• Objectives and programmes of action for the sustainable development of the tourism industry
are to be outlines specifically in the national development plans and strategies and formulated in
consultation with relevant local stakeholders.
• Developing new resources and facilities as well as raising awareness of inherent natural and
cultural resources
• New focus of sustainable development and management of tourism should be on the
promotion of economic incentives and environmental education and on local capacity
building rather than merely on the establishment of rules and regulations.
• Developing and raising tourism-oriented education. This will help to change people’s
perception regarding tourism and raise their awareness on the opportunities and challenges
involved in tourism.
• Making efficient use of the mass media and other promotional facilities to publicize and promote
existing attractions and available resources
• Providing training and education programmes on different aspects of tourism for those directly
involved in the sector activities. This should cover; foreign languages, business and tourism
techniques history, culture, the environment and socio-cultural impacts of tourism, local and
national flora and fauna.
• Focus on physical planning and strengthening the sustainability of tourism and ecotourism
products, in order to preserves the environmental and cultural quality of destinations.
• Improving the quality and efficiency of the basic tourism related infrastructure and services
such as, hotels, roads, public amenities, transportation and communication.
• Diversifying the tourism product (tourism supply) by the inclusion of socio-cultural
programmes and traditional activities involving local communities
