Q. As a history what do you think,
what were the reasons /factors
behind the development of two nation
theory?

Al-Baruni recorded his ideas in 1001 AD in his famous book “Kitab-ul-hind” as” The Hindu
society maintained this peculiar character over the centuries. Two societies, Hindus and Muslims
like two streams have some times but never merged each following its separate course.”

Factors:

1. Religious differences
2. Hindu Nationalism
3. Culture differences
4. Social Differences
5. Language

1- Religious Difference:
Muslims are the believer of Allah, Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the
messenger of Allah. Muslim firmly believes on the Holy book Quran and life
hereafter. On the other side, Hindus believe in many Gods. They have thousand of
Gods.

2- Hindus Nationalism:
A number of Hindu nationalist movements were started in the
subcontinent that added fuel to the fire and increased the conflict between the two
communities. The Hindu nationalist leaders totally ignored the great contribution of
Muslims in the Indian society and push the Muslims on one side.
3- Culture Differences:
Muslim followed the Islamic culture and buried their dead
bodies. Muslims slaughtered the cow and abhorred the tradition of ‘Sati.’ In Islam
every human beings are equal. On the other side, Hindus inherited a self build culture
and burnt their dead bodies. Hindus considered the mother cow as a sacred animal
and they performed ‘Sati’ and worshipped.

4- Social Differences:
The two communities of the subcontinent differ in their social
life. The clothes, foods , household utensils, construction of homes, word of
greetings, the gestures and everything about them was different and immediately
represented to the distinctive origin . The moral values, ethics and norms of both the
communities are totally different.

5- Language:
Language of the Muslims was Urdu and it was written in Arabic script.
Urdu language had the different in writing, thoughts of poetry, arts, painting and word
of music. On the other side, Hindu language was spoken in Hindus and it was written
in Sanskrit. Hindi language had its own way of writing in every art which is quite
different from Urdu. Even this small differences lead to a stirring conflict between
two nations.

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan point of view:

‘I am convinced now that Hindus and Muslims could never become one nation as
their religion and way of life was quite distinct from each other’.

Quaid-e-Azam point of view:

‘Muslims are not a minority; they are one nation by every definition of the word
nation. By all canons of international law we are a nation’.

Allama Iqbal point of view:

‘India is a continent of human being belonging to different language and professing
different religions … I, therefore demand the formation of a consolidated Muslim
state in the best interest of the Muslims of India and Islam ‘.

Conclusions:
The conclusion came out that Muslims realized they would lose their religion and
culture. Muslims understand that they were different from Hindus because its
religions, culture, languages, political and social differences are totally different from
Hindus. Muslims demand for separate homeland and place where they will be safe,
secure and guarded. They demanded a place where they can practice their religion
according to Quran, Hadith and Sunnah easily.
