The Dexterity School of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (DexSchool)

Introduction: The Dexterity School of Leadership and Entrepreneurship (DexSchool) is

a weeklong world-class residential summer school of leadership and entrepreneurship for
middle school and high school students aided with a yearlong mentoring and support
system. In other words, DexSchool is like a life-changing rigorous MBA program for
middle school and high school students in low-income countries.

Our primary objective is to equip future leaders of the world (most coming from
marginalized communities and low-income countries) with leadership and
entrepreneurship as tools of change. The project equips young people with effective skill
sets, builds their network of advocates, supporters and collaborators, and enables them to
solve and address the challenges and needs of their communities through innovative and
efficient leadership and entrepreneurial solutions.

The Project for Peace will take place in Patna, India in June 2015 where an entire
university campus will serve as the residential DexSchool and students will be taught
through activities, challenges and a curriculum designed by experts from McKinsey,
World Bank, MIT, Harvard, Tufts and other prestigious educational institutions and
corporates. Five inspirational leaders and entrepreneurs will be mentors-in-residence.

If we look back, two kinds of people have had the greatest contribution to world peace:
those who were courageous enough to dream and those who were determined enough to
act. The DexSchool is enabling the young generation in low-income countries to dream
(without fear) and act (without hesitance). We can’t afford to let the dreams and ideas of
our young generation die. And, that’s the reason why DexSchool exists. DexSchool is
creating a generation that may have lived through 21st century challenges itself but is
striving hard to ensure it’s the last generation that sees those problems. DexSchool
graduates are agents of peace, prosperity and change.

Need and Impact

Students in low-income countries are more likely to have first-hand experiences of some
of the world’s greatest challenges, which also inspire their drive, dreams, and ideas.
However, in order to act on these, they need an enabler, a support system. Since, schools
too do not have the bandwidth to inject an innovation, entrepreneurship or leadership
focus, DexSchool solves this problem by creating a fine blend of a school of government
and a school of business for young students aided by some of the world’s finest mentors
and a well though curriculum and program enabling young people to build the future.
DexSchool is the enabler that they need.

DexSchool was piloted in 2013 and has ever since impacted the lives of children and
youth from some of South Asia’s most marginalized communities and untapped
regions. On Rediff India's 2014 list of 10 Most Inspirational Stories, #1 was that of a
DexSchool graduate. The winner of the UNESCO Multimedia Award in 2014 was
DexSchool graduate and so was the UN Youth Courage Awardee 2014. A DexSchool
graduate represented India at the International Youth Forum in Seliger, Russia while two
DexSchool graduates are currently serving as the Regional Ambassadors to UNEP Tunza
Eco-generation. At every level and at every place, DexSchool graduates are ensuring
peace and progress in their own unique ways.

Qualifications
I am the founder and Executive Director of DexSchool. As a young social innovator, I
have spent one-third of my life designing and implementing innovative platforms,
resources, and support systems for children and youth across the world. I have worked
with several organizations including the United Nations and its agencies, the US
Consulate and its American Centers in India, schools and colleges and their
administration, the state and national governments and their senior bureaucrats.

For my work in the field of creating greater access for children and youth, I have received
multiple UN awards and honors. In 2013, the Rockefeller Foundation included me in its
centennial list of Top 100 Next Century Innovators.

The DexSchool Board of Advisors includes some of the world’s most reputed
professional and executives who have served in key roles at some of the world’s most
prestigious organizations.

Outcomes and their Assessment

In the last two years, DexSchool has made some of the most improbable stories possible.
Our 80 DexSchool graduates range from daughters of sex workers to young boys from
Asia’s most impoverished communities. In 2015, we hope to offer the DexSchool
experience to 120 young students (as opposed to 40 in previous two years) with the
support of 100 Projects for Peace. The DexSchool experience will enable these students
to identify challenges and needs and address them through their learning and support
system they gain from the DexSchool including but not limited to people, funding, tools
and resources.

The project will continue to be assessed by number of DexSchool graduates who were
offered the experience and yearlong mentoring, the impact of the program on them
(which is evaluated using our in-class feedback tool), and the number of impact projects
and initiatives by our DexSchool graduates.

Our budget is $20,000. We have been successful in reaching 10,000 dollars each year.
We hope to accommodate the 2x increase in the number of graduates through a 100
Projects for Peace funding. We are committed to meeting the remainder through tuition,
donors and partners.

Board of Advisors has been attached.
