Read the following letter about John, a boy who likes to write friendly letters to his new pen
pal. When you are through with the reading, answer the questions that follow.

London, England

October. 30th, 2017

Dear friend,

1- My name is John. I am 10 years old. I live in London, England. I am in the fifth

intermediate class at school. I was very excited when our teacher told us to write a letter.
I go to Lake School in London, which is a private school. There are 300 students and 30
teachers in this school. We have a big hall room where we gather during the recess time.
The large green fields and orchards behind the school are one of my favorite places
where I often play and run.
2- Boys have to wear white trousers, a white shirt and a black tie. The girls have to
wear white shirts and skirts. While in public schools here, students wear uniforms. We
come to school at 9 a.m. and finish at 2 p.m. from Monday till Friday. We study most of
our lessons in English. I’m also learning French. I enjoy reading French stories to improve
my language skills. Do you have any classes in a foreign language? Also, we study gym,
science and music. What subjects do you study at your school? I hope I will hear from
you soon and then we will become “pen pals”. Tell me about your school and give my
best wishes to your classmates.
Yours sincerely,

John
